Emma Stone’s new film Poor Things helped her overcome “shame” she experienced over on-screen nudity.
Throughout her Hollywood career, Emma actually refused to film nude scenes for fear of her father’s opinion. However, Stone has managed to ditch the “shame” linked to being naked on the silver screen after stripping off for 2024’s much anticipated Poor Things.
In the film Emma plays Bella Baxter, a young woman who is brought back from the dead by a crazy scientist. She goes through a number of sexual encounters as she manages to make her way through her new life.

Stone’s sexual scenes include a moment when Bella uses an apple as a sex toy and she also strips off with co-star Mark Ruffalo. The steamy moment sees Ruffalo and Stone try out a number of wild positions during a racy session.

Poor Things has been described as “ultra horny” and “the raunchiest movie fans are likely to see all year” after its planned release in 2024. Emma learned a lot from Bella, including breaking free form some of the religious ideas she was raised with.
The Sun reported that Emma said: “Shame was a hell of a drug for me. I think maybe because of where I was raised, I was raised Lutheran and there was an aspect of right and wrong. I internalised, just societally, a lot of things that I felt guilty about or ashamed of.”

“The past few years of my life – and Bella is no small part of that – has been questioning why I believe those things.” Stone’s parents have been supportive of her goals but she held herself back from more NSFW scenes due to fears of what they would think.
Stone said: “My dad would kill me if I posed naked. He wouldn’t speak to me again and I really love my dad, so that’s always something that makes me a little nervous.” She ditched her former ideals and decided to strip off for 2018’s The Favourite, despite her co-star’s attempts to talk sense into her.

Now, for Poor Things, arguably the most central theme is sex and nudity: “Sex is one aspect of Bella’s experiencing of everything, because there’s travel, there’s dance, there’s food, there’s politics, there’s the concept of money, but with sex, with the discovery of pleasure, I think it’s purely pleasure at the beginning and then it evolves.”
