Coronation Street viewers are in for a treat next year, with ITV bosses set to deliver another explosive year of storylines on the cobbles.
This year, viewers were glued to their screens as the beloved soap explored a series of hard-hitting storylines. At the start of the year Daisy Midgeley’s wedding day was ruined when her stalker Justin threw acid at her face.
Luckily, Ryan Prescott blocked the attack and was left with devastating facial scars. As the barman adjusted to his new life, the pair grew closer behind the scenes and had a steamy affair behind her fiancé Daniel Osbourne’s back.

Elsewhere, Paul Foreman was diagnosed with motor neuron disease and given less than two years left to live. The fan-favourite shared the devastating news with his family at his twin sister’s wedding.
Another beloved character whose life was turned upside down was Jenny Connors after she was forced to close the Rovers Return due to sky high costs and expenses. But her horrible year didn’t end then when she found out about her murderous boyfriend Stephen Reid’s reign of terror.
The Canadian businessman’s killing spree came to an end in September when he was run over by Peter Barlow when he held Jenny hostage. The Platt’s faced more trouble in the year when Sarah had an affair with bad boy Damon Hay behind her husband’s back.
Her life turned upside down when Adam learnt about her affair and discovered that her unborn child wasn’t his. Since then, the couple have gone their separate ways but continue to co-parent their child after Damon left Weatherfield.
As the year finally draws to a close, Daily Star has taken a look at some of the storylines that fans predict will come to fruition in 2024. Let’s take a look…
Rovers to reopen
Loyal fans of the ITV soap were devastated when the iconic pub closed earlier this year. But they’re still holding out hope that the heart of the street will return to its former glory in the new year.
Due to the busy work schedule on the cobbles, actors often film and edit scenes months in advance. So when Claire Sweeney shared an announcement snap with her skating partner on Instagram ahead of Dancing on Ice next year, eagle eyed couldn’t help but spot a telling clue in the background.
The skating duo could be seen posing up a storm in front of the legendary pub, but one viewer couldn’t help but notice that Jenny Connor’s name is still above the door with no for sale sign in the window. Fans are now convinced that the auburn beauty will eventually buy back the pub and become the landlady once again.
One user penned: “Looks like from this photo that the rovers is back open with no for sale sign and Jenny’s name is still about the door [shifty eyes emoji] #Corrie.” Another agreed: “Jenny will somehow get the pub back” as a third echoed: “Debbie’s going to buy back the Rovers and rehire Jenny as a live in manageress.”
Paul’s emotional death
One unfortunate reality for fans is that viewers will be forced to say goodbye to beloved resident Paul Foreman when he eventually loses his battle to MND. The star was diagnosed with the incurable disease last year.
Since then, the family have been adjusting to his deteriorating condition which has now left him wheelchair bound, with the star soon set to lose his voice. Fans are devastated to see the character pass away in Weatherfield and are already concerned how they will be able to watch the emotional scenes.
Taking to the social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – they shared their heartache online. One user penned: “So we could lose Paul by May 2024. I’m not ready for these scenes they will be heartbreaking [heartbroken emoji, crying emoji] #corrie.”
Another predicted: “Paul has been given 6 to 12 months left but I think he might die a little earlier. 6 months away is April #corrie.”
Billy’s new hunk
After watching the emotional scenes play out, viewers will see Paul’s husband Billy Mayhew grieve his loss. But producer Iain MacLeod has teased that cupid will take pity on the archdeacon in the new year and give him another chance at love.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, the religious hunk could find love in the arms of young undertaker Todd Grimshaw. Loyal fans of the soap will remember the pair once dated before Billy tied the knot with Paul.
The undertaker has been focusing on work after his relationship with Billy broke down, and his talent was recognised when he was nominated for Young Funeral Director of the Year. With his career only going up, Todd has been on the lookout for a new man in his life after seeing his ex-fall in love again.
But it appears that the former flames could grow closer in the new year as they work together to plan Paul’s funeral. The ITV producer told the publication: “There’s a dalliance, shall we say, but it arrives at a quite poor time, and the person with whom he has the connection is probably not ideal in terms of the situation that Todd meets them in.
“But yeah, it’s at this time, only a little test drive of his relationship with this person. It’s not very long running, but we thought if we like what we see, it might come on to be long running later on.”
Former flames reunite
Another couple who’s relationship is on the rocks is Daniel Osbourne and Daisy Midgley’s who have been pushed apart across 2023. In recent weeks, fans have watched the devastated husband-to-be learn about the barmaid’s infidelity with Ryan.
But things are about to get a whole lot worse in the new year after ITV bosses announced that Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, is set to return to the cobbles in the new year. Teasing her involvement in the Ryan, Daniel and Daisy love triangle, Iain revealed: “She turns back up and is instantly very much a foe for Daisy.
“But they’re very evenly matched now… she’s very much a woman now more on Daisy’s level.” After learning about her return, fans flooded to Reddit to predict whether she will reunite with Daniel.
One user penned: “Hopefully Bethany will return and get with Daniel. Ryan will go off to Ibiza to follow his DJing dream leaving Daisy & Lauren alone #corrie.” Another agreed: “Bethany coming back to save Daniel from this cheating minx.”
A third insisted: “Daniel is going to get back with Bethany when she returns, I think” as a fourth hypothesised: “Bethany will take over Daisy’s role in the show and gets back with Daniel.”

Following the fallout of Daisy and Ryan’s steamy affair, many viewers believe that the barmaid will run off into the sunset with the gym bunny. Over the past few months, fans have seen their relationship blossom from friendship to genuine romance as they moved on from the traumatic acid attack.
Now, Bard AI has predicted that the brunette beauty will end up spending the rest of her life with Ryan and call off her engagement to Daniel. It explained: “It is possible that Daisy could end up with Ryan on Coronation Street.
“The two characters have shared a complex and often tumultuous relationship, and there is an undeniable chemistry between then. Daisy has been drawn to Ryan’s rebellious nature and his ability to make her feel alive, while Ryan has been captivated by Daisy’s vivacious personality and her unwavering support.
“However, based on the characters’ previous interactions and the current state of their relationship, it is certainly a possibility that could be explored in future storylines.”
