EastEnders’ Pam St Clement made co-star ‘s**t himself’ after row in first week

EastEnders star Pam St Clement once had a furious row with her co-star Scott Maslen after he accidentally called her by her character’s name.

The beloved actress is known for her iconic role on the BBC One soap. She first appeared on the show as Pat Butcher back in June 1986.

During her time in Walford, her character was married four times and had many explosive rows with her frenemy Peggy Mitchell. In 2016, the soap star decided to bid farewell to Albert Square after 30 years on the show.

Despite making a name for herself on the long-running soap, the 81-year-old is determined to ditch her famous character and reportedly loses her rag when people call her Pat by accident. Jake Wood, who played Max Branning, revealed how the actor snapped at Scott, 49, shortly after he joined the soap.

When he first took on the role as Jack Wood, he mistakenly called Pam by her character’s name which reportedly sent her on a nasty rant. During an appearance on his podcast Pound for Pound, he recalled the terrifying moment in the Queen Vic.

He told fans: “She really took offence and gave him a hard time for it. She’s a really lovely lady but she wasn’t too happy.

“She looked at him and goes, ‘Don’t call me Pat!’ Scott was s***ing himself. She talks really posh in real life.”

This isn’t the first time that Pam has been accused of being aggressive towards people who have made the same mistake. In 2015, it was reported that she told a rail worker to “f**k off” when he joked: “Pat Butcher? I thought you were dead.”

A source told The Sun: “He obviously meant absolutely nothing by it. I’d have thought that she got called Pat all the time to be honest, she was on the telly for years.

“She needs to calm down a bit, maybe she’d had a long day – but the poor guy who asked her looked pretty upset, I thought he might cry.” After her exit, St Clement revealed that she didn’t actually want her character to be killed off – and had been promised that she wouldn’t be.

Speaking to The Mirror in 2015, she confessed: “It was very, very difficult. I was saying goodbye to a character I’d inhabited for almost 26 years and, while i had chosen to leave EastEnders, i didn’t want Pat to die.

“I was adamant there should be a chance for her to return and had been assured by the executive producer she wouldn’t be axed… I went away feeling empty and let down.”
