ITV The Chase host Bradley Walsh begs for work for pal in ‘urgent’ appeal

Bradley Walsh has issued an “urgent” appeal for “someone to give him a job” after his close pal was left “out of work”.

The host of hit ITV gameshow The Chase took to Instagram in a video alongside comedian Brian Conley who has recently departed EastEnders. Brian was cast in Albert Square as Rocky Cotton in 2021, but quit in September after reportedly being frustrated at the Beeb’s reluctance to allow him time off to appear in pantomimes.

Addressing Brian’s 111,000 followers, Bradley, 63, said: “Hello, everyone. I’m I’m backstage here at the Milton Keynes Theatre coming to see an old friend of mine. We’ve known each other a long time, since we’ve been teenagers in effect. And, sadly, now, at the moment, the show’s come to an end. And he’s left a show on the BBC called EastEnders. So he’s actually out of work, and I believe he’s now looking for work.”

Finding the video hilarious, fans of the pair replied with suggestions on how they should work together in the future. One Instagram user commented: “You guys should do a ‘Gordon, Gino and Fred’ type programme!! I would def watch that.” Another pondered: “How have you two not got your own sitcom??!”

A third wrote: “OMG Bradders – i just had a brilliant idea – get him on Gladiators you and Barn are hosting. Brian would be hilarious on there with you. Come on make it happen!” And a fourth said: “Please someone get these 2 on TV together!! It would be hilarious. Love you guys.”

BBC bosses had plans for a major storyline that involved Brian’s character and Kathy Beale, played by Gillian Taylforth. However, his shock decision put paid to those plans, angering the show’s producers.

Brian Conley reported quit his EastEnders role after being denied time off to star in panto

An insider told Birmingham Live of Brian’s parting with the Beeb: “It’s all come to a head. The truth is, bosses are furious. Brian was a brilliant signing and has been a big hit with fans. But it looks as though he’s just not enjoying being on EastEnders any more — and has been telling a lot of colleagues and telly friends he wanted out for a while.

“It’s all come to a head, and at the National TV Awards last week he was pretty open with co-stars and friends about his exit. He seems delighted he’s got his own way. The Beeb wanted him to stay, but he’s having none of it.”

The source continued: “The truth is, bosses are furious. They’d made so many plans around him and his character, and they really thought he was in for the long haul. There has been a lot said in private about him messing up their plans.

“Whatever has wound him up, it feels like he can’t get out of there quick enough — and now they’re going to have to rewrite their storyline plans for his rapid exit.”
