Kim Cattrall had personalised ‘jockstrap’ for racy nude Sex And The City scenes

Kim Cattrall has shared details of what her nude scenes were like while filming without intimacy coordinators back in the 90s.

Cattrall detailed the only type of protection she got while on the Sex And The City set: “The most I ever got was for [costume designer] Pat Field to make this – she called it a K.C. Cup [Kim Cattrall cup] that would cover, like a jockstrap, both actors if the scene required it.”

In the show Queer as Folk, Cattrall shot her first nonbinary love scene and has noted that an intimacy coordinator was on set to direct the stars – a behind the scenes role that came out of the #MeToo movement.

She spoke to Variety about the experience and said: “And for the first time in my career, I was introduced to someone who had the position on a set that I had no idea what they did – her heading was ‘intimacy coach’. I thought: ‘Excuse me?!’ I never had an intimacy coach.”

Kim branded the experience “fantastic” and compared it to “the wardrobe department holding a housecoat for you when they said cut or putting a towel over you” on Sex And The City. She explained: “They had this person there who’d say: ‘Okay, stop! We need this protection there,’ it was like a fairy godmother.”

After performing as Samantha for six series, Kim has said that she won’t be stripping off on screen again. She said: “I don’t want to be nude anymore. I’m 65. I’m in great shape, but I’m just not interested. I feel like I filled my quote on that one, and without an intimacy coach.”

Intimacy coordinators are an important position on set to help prevent sexual harassment and enforce safe spaces for actors while filming without their clothes on. Fellow Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston has recently sparked backlash for refusing a coordinator while filming for The Morning Show.

In an interview with Variety, Aniston said that she is “from the olden days” and when she was offered a coordinator to help, she shunned the option as the sex scene “is awkward enough” and she considers herself “seasoned enough” to “figure it out”.
