Helen hit back at Jon live on air earlier this week after he made a brutal swipe at her and her co-star Gethin Ahead of the new format of the show, Jon crossed over from MediaCity in Salford to the Morning Live studio in Manchester. Whilst two pairs of hosts were chatting to each other, the 54-year-old made a sly dig at the hosts..

Jon quipped to the pair on the other side of the whether their later start time would mean a bit more time in bed. Playfully joking around, Jon pondered: “So, I mean, I know your programme is going out longer – you’ve been extended – but does this mean you get a bit of a lie-in?”

Welsh hunk Gethin, however, was quick to dispel the idea, saying that to make sure the show was ready, the show’s producers had asked them to come in earlier than usual. He sarcastically hit back at Jon: “Thanks for bringing that up as well Jon!”

The BBC Breakfast presenter was hot on his feet however as he quickly retorted: “We’ll just hold the fort until 9:30 when you’ve had your hair done and you’re ready, that’s fine.” Stunned at what she heard, Helen stepped in and asked Jon for a clarification.

“We are ready, what are you on about?” she exclaimed. She finished by calling out Jon: “You cheeky monkey!” which soon sent all four presenters into hysterics.
