Talk show host Jonathan Ross has returned to our screens with a bang for the fifth series of The Masked Singer UK.
The TV star, 63, never fails to impress with his colourful wardrobe and wacky celebrity stories. On New Year’s Day, he returned with his fellow detectives Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, and celebrity guest Charlie Simpson.
But that’s not all he’s been up to. He most recently launched a new podcast with his daughter Honey Ross called Reel Talk where they talk about their favourite films and celebrity interactions.

One surprising story he recently revealed is that he is actually related to another famous stand-up comic. As TV detectives put their brains together to unmask the 12 celebrities hidden inside their extravagant costumes, Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside the talk show host’s hidden connection to Alan Carr.
Speaking during an episode of his podcast Life’s a Beach in February 2022, the dad-of-three revealed that he is distantly related to the famous funnyman. To discuss the topic, the broadcaster welcomed Alan, 47, onto the show where they explained how they are both from Margate in Kent.
Alan revealed that the pair discovered their shared lineage at a star-studded Halloween party. He said on Jonathan’s show: “People might not know this, but your lovely late mum came up to me at your Halloween party and said, ‘We are related, aren’t we?’ Do you remember?
“I was so excited because4 we come from the same area, we are distantly related. I remember going over to you saying, ‘Jonathan, Jonathan your mum says we’re related’ and you went, ‘For f**k sake.’”
Laughing, Jonathan added: “I tried to stop her talking to people because she’d always find some famous connection” as Alan insisted: “It’s quite a strong link.” A surprised Jonathan asked: “Is it really? I don’t know if I want to be involved with you.”
Shocked, Alan gasped: “What! F**k you” as Jonathan continued: “I saw your episode of Who Do You Think You Are and you’ve got a deserter in your family. I don’t know if I want to be tarnished by that.”
Alan continued: “We are related – I forget that. But we don’t look alike do we?” as Jonathan chuckled: “Well, neither of us have got looks, let’s be honest. But you scrub up very well, you just don’t do it often!
“You do! I’ve seen you look very handsome, you do, you’ve got a handsome face.” It was at this point that Alan joked: “You’re full of s**t!” Later on in the year, the pair appeared on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown where they revealed their shared heritage with the public.
Jimmy Carr opened the show asking: “Alan it says here you’re related to one of tonight’s guests, is that true?” Alan proudly admitted: “Yes, it’s Jonathan Ross. We are related.”
Jonathan fumed: “Yeah, but I’ve asked you so many times not to tell people that.” Alan insisted: “You won’t be so offended when you’re looking for a relative for a kidney.”
He went on to reveal that their connections cross approximately three or four generations back. The comic explained: “It’s about three or four grandparents back isn’t it?”
The star then revealed the real reason why he had signed up to take part on the family history show Who Do You Think You Are. Alan confessed: “BBC had asked me for ages to do this ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ and I kept saying, ‘No, no, no.’
“Then I saw the one with Kriss Akabusi and he ended up in Trinidad and Tobago. I thought, ‘Alan, put your name down, you can get a free holiday.’ Peckham, I spent two weeks in Peckham.”

Jonathan went on to point out that Alan’s side of the family included a deserter during the second world war – and that’s not the only interesting fact about him. He noted: “Alan found out because one of your relatives had been a deserter in the war as well.”
Alan chuckled: “I know, yes, he ran off dressed as a woman. They told me this at the Imperial War Museum. He survived the Battle of the Somme, yeah because he ran off in slingbacks and a women’s hat.”
