BBC Breakfast stars enjoy movie night together away from cameras as co-star is snubbed

BBC Breakfast host Ben Thompson boasted about his lavish movie night with his beloved colleague as he snubbed his co-star Rachel Burden.

During Sunday’s (January 7) visit to the BBC studios, the presenting duo welcomed viewers back to the morning show where they discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines. This included the ongoing floods across the country and the exciting preparations for the Golden Globes.

The prestigious event is set to take place in the heart of Los Angeles tonight where the biggest names in Hollywood will gather up after another huge year for cinema. Last year, cinefiles sae Barbie and Oppenheimer dominate the box office followed by the Killers of the Flower Moon and Past Lives.

During the show, the dynamic duo welcomed BBC film critic Ali Plumb onto the show to share his thoughts on the upcoming celebrations. When the TV presenter was asked what one film he would recommend watching from 2023, he immediately replied: “Past Lives.”

He gushed: “I would recommend Past Lives. It’s a beautiful romance, it’s an immigrant story, it is from a newcomer director and it stars Gretta Lee who was just superb.

“It is, I think, my film of the year 2023.” It was at this point that Ben shared his love for the love story as he opened up on his fun-filled evening with his co-star Naga Munchetty.

The broadcaster confessed: “It is really good actually. Naga and I went to the cinema to watch it together actually. We had a bottle of wine and we sat and watched it and it’s brilliant.”

Slightly surprised, Rachel said: “Ooh that’s a big statement, so you’ve seen it?” as he replied: “Yeah, it is really good.” Other films expected to win awards at the star-studded event is Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer alongside Greta Gerwig’s feel-good film Barbie.

The children’s film has already received an impressive nine nominations for the much-loved movie, with the dramatic biopic receiving eight. Other films from the past year that have also received nominations include Maestro, Killers of the Flower Moon, Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives.

It comes after the TV presenter was forced to stand in for Charlie Stayt during Saturday (January 6) morning’s show. The 61-year-old host usually hosts the program with his co-host Naga from Thursday to Saturday, but the broadcaster was nowhere to be seen during the weekend show.
