ITV Coronation Street’s Joseph health diagnosis revealed after youngster collapses

Coronation Street fans can expect plenty of drama next week as Gemma Winter-Brown’s stepson Joseph takes another turn for the worst.

Over the past few weeks, ITV fans have seen the loving mother cripple with worry over the youngster who has been displaying a range of worrying health concerns. Most recently, the pupil was afflicted with several headaches before he collapsed and was sent to hospital.

In hospital, doctors shared their concerns for the child and called social services to report his illness as neglect. Since then, the auburn beauty has been attempting to prove to social services that she is fit to be a mother to their four children.

Gemma shares her worries about Joseph’s temperature spike with Paul who points out that she could jeopardise her situation with social services if she keeps pushing it, and advises her to keep quiet. But by the end of the day, Gemma goes against his advice and confides in Dr Gaddas in the café as a furious Chesney overhears.

At No.5 Gemma, Chesney and Paul mess about with the kids, but the mood is broken when Granny Linda arrives on the cobbles. Later on in the week, Linda hands Chesney a business card for a family solicitor but the doting husband refuses to discuss it.

When Joseph gags on his milk, Chesney realises that the fridge is broken and all the food has gone off. Chesney is seen leaving the house with a poorly looking Joseph and assures Gemma that he just has an upset stomach while Dr Gaddas listens with interest.

While Chesney takes the youngster to the doctors, Gemma discovers the solicitor’s business card and accuses Chesney of plotting to take her kids off her. Chesney reassures her that he’d never do that before Linda confessed it was her idea because she doesn’t think Gemma is safe to be around her own children.

It’s at this point that Gemma storms out of the house in floods of tears. Later on in the day, Chesney receives a call from school telling him Joseph has fallen sick again.

At number five, Chesney and Linda fuss over Joseph but as he stands his legs give way and he collapses on the sofa, barely conscious. Utterly terrified, Chesney orders Linda to call an ambulance immediately.

In the hospital, the doctor approaches and explains that after talking to Dr Gaddas, they suspect Joseph has Lyme disease which he could have contracted on a camping trip. At the end of the week, doctors confirm that Joseph has Lyme disease but reassured the family that he should make a full recovery.

Joseph soon wakes up to find Gemma and Chesney at his bedside. An elated Gemma tells Chesney and Joseph that social services have confirmed that she can move back home.

But Chesney is shocked when Joseph announces that he wants to live with Gemma and not him because she’s the only one who believed he was ill the whole time. Fans will have to stay tuned to see how Joseph’s comments will rattle the family.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 from 8pm or catch up on ITVX.
