Strictly’s Amanda Abbington ‘wouldn’t ask for Giovanni footage if nothing on it’

Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley appeared to share his support for Amanda Abbington following the Strictly Come Dancing scandal involving Giovanni Pernice.

Actress Amanda and Giovanni have been the talk of the town over the last few days after feud rumours emerged following Amanda’s Strictly stint last year, which she claims gave her PTSD. In 2023, Amanda, who was partnered with dance pro Giovanni, decided to leave the competition early for “personal reasons”.

But since her early exit, Amanda has now demanded that she receives footage from her rehearsals while on the show, indicating that something more troublesome occurred behind the scenes. Sharing his take on the situation, presenter Richard appeared to side with Amanda while discussing the matter on Wednesday’s GMB (January 10).

Talking openly to entertainment reporter Richard Arnold. Presenter Susanna Reid said it was unfortunate that Amanda didn’t seem to have a good experience on the BBC series. Richard said: ” Just like Susanna implies, she wouldn’t ask for footage if there wasn’t something on it that justifies her complaints, why ask for it?”

Richard’s remark appeared to be a poignant one, as they decided to move on from the matter quickly. Entertainment reporter Richard then said: “We’ll wait and see. Moving on.”

However, some viewers at home didn’t drop the subject so quickly, as they questioned whether the presenters would ask Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Michelle Visage about her experience with Gio. Michelle was partnered with the Italian dancer in 2019 when she appeared on Strictly.

But despite fans waiting to hear opinion on the situation, Richard and Susanna failed to ask her anything about it. This led one viewer to take to X and write: “I notice they didn’t ask Michelle, funny that, probably because they knew she would only have positive things to say which goes against Richard who is clearly on Amanda’s side based on his comments earlier.”

The news comes after it was reported that Amanda suffered PTSD after starring in Strictly. Talking to The Sun about the matter, a BBC spokesperson said: “Strictly Come Dancing has always taken duty of care incredibly seriously and there is a constant dialogue between senior members of the production team and the contestants to ensure any concerns are addressed swiftly.”
