It’s been eight years since the tragic death of David Bowie – and artificial intelligence has revealed what he would look like now.
David’s death stopped many in their tracks when it was revealed he had tragically died at the start of 2016 at the age of 69. The pop star passed away after a cancer battle.
Famous for his alter egos like Ziggy Stardust and hits like Under Pressure and Let’s Dance, David’s career spanned more than five decades. With around 140million records sold worldwide, the singer is one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.

Fans at the time of his death were surprised to hear that he’d been struggling with his health. David had reportedly shielded his fatal diagnosis from the world, taking on the terminal illness in private.
A true showman until the end, David battled through his cancer to record his final studio album, and 26th overall, Blackstar. It became his swan song as he died on January 10, 2016 – two days after its release and his birthday.
In exclusive pictures generated by Midjourney, the AI system has revealed versions of how David Bowie might look now, aged 77.
Some might say David’s look and style were also a big factor in his rise to stardom when he was alive. Not afraid to push boundaries, the pop star didn’t shy away from rocking a jaw-dropping outfit.
For the pop star, nothing was off-limits. From sequinned onesies to pastel-coloured suits, David was a fashion icon. But in the pictures from Midjourney, the singer rocks a more smart and casual attire – including a shirt and blazer.
One photo saw David smoulder to the camera while wearing a baby pink suit, finished off with a matching cravat. While in another snap, he donned a brown scarf.
In several photos, David can be seen playing an instrument, including strumming a guitar and sitting at a grand piano – a nod to his legendary music status. He also appeared more wrinkled than prior to his death, but had a full head of wispy grey hair as he was depicted as a 77-year-old man.

Bowie was 69 when he died of cancer on January 10, 2016 after being diagnosed with the killer condition 18 months earlier. He passed away in his New York City apartment and was survived by his wife, Iman, and his children: Alexandria Zahra Jones and Duncan Jones
It had been hoped that Bowie would be able to go into remission. But by November 2015, the cancer had spread and he was told that it was terminal.
Ivo van Hove, who had directed Bowie’s off-Broadway musical, explained that the singer had been unable to attend rehearsals for Lazarus as his cancer had worsened. He told of Bowie struggling through his illness anyway and continuing to work.
Following his death, there was much speculation about whether his hedonistic lifestyle was partly to blame for his early demise. A documentary titled Autopsy: The Final Hours of David Bowie saw US medical expert Dr Michael Hunter discuss set the record straight.
The expert spoke about the finer details of the probe into the circumstances surrounding the multi-award-winning stars passing. He said: “Despite abusing drugs such as cocaine, and alcohol, he had given both up many years before the end and I believe they played no part in his death.”
Discussing David’s permanently-dilated pupil – known as anisocoria – which he developed when he was punched in the eye during a playground fight over a girl, Dr Hunter talked of the possibility of an aneurysm.
He also ruled out any diagnosis of schizophrenia, which three of David’s aunts and his half-brother Terry all suffered from. One part of David’s lifestyle that Dr Hunter did believe may have been a factor in his death was his decades-long 60-cigarettes a day habit.
He said: “Liver cancer is rarely a primary cancer. I have to ask: Did the cancer start in his lungs and migrate to the liver? It’s highly possible.”
