Star Trek is well known as a sci-fi franchise that showed what potential intelligent life might look like.
One of the regular characters on the show was Worf, a stern Klingon who first featured in Star Trek: The Next Generation way back in 1987. Since then, the alien character was seen in several of the franchise’s series and films and became the most featured character in the franchise.
Played by Michael Dorn, Worf was known as a steely and honourable character who is able to adapt to the challenges facing him as a Klingon in Starfleet. But away from the series, actor Dorn has a lot more in common with his character than first meets the eye.

Taking on the role of Worf for nearly 40 years, Dorn became accustomed to the numerous prosthetics for the look of the Son of Mogh. However, he has appeared in several other projects including Castle, where he portrayed the therapist of Kate Beckett, a police detective for the NYPD. He was also a cameo in Ted 2, but more of that later.

The 71-year-old actor has also had an illustrious career in children’s animation, making a huge splash with the likes of Danny Phantom, Disney’s adaptation of Hercules and Ben 10, to name just a few. He also has taken on other roles in more serious dramas including Without a Trace and Heroes, both resulting in critical acclaim for his performances.
In total, Dorn has made nearly 300 appearances in Star Trek content, including films and TV episodes. Speaking about his time on the show, he said he grew to love the character and believed the world needs to find out more about the reclusive figure.

Michael, who is still clued into the Star Trek fanbase, is currently trying to gather interest for the potential for another Star Trek spin-off looking into the backstory of his Klingon character. He said of the idea: “I had come up with the idea because I love [Worf] and I think he’s a character that hasn’t been fully developed.”
And it is clear that fans of the show love Michael as an actor, as many have flocked to gush over his professional acting skills. One Star Trek fan said of the Worf actor: “I think the producers were in love with Dorn as well. Between TNG & DS9 plus five movies, he may have more on-screen presence than any other Trek actor. Has anyone done the math on that?”
Well he did appear in season three of Picard as well. So he’s definitely out in front there.

A second user agreed with the sentiment and paid tribute to Dorn for his service to the franchise. “We in the Star Trek world have been very lucky with the actors we get, they are all for the most part way to good for us,” they wrote.
Whilst a third account admitted they struggled to even recognise Dorn in other projects, due to the immense prosthetics usually put on him whilst filming the sci-fi hit. They joked: “I couldn’t even recognize him at first, when I saw his cameo in Ted 2 and he is wearing a damn Worf cosplay outfit in all his scenes.”
