Bradley Walsh takes cheeky swipe at rival game show as he welcomes host on ITV show

Bradley Walsh took a cheeky swipe at his rival game show Pointless just moments before he welcomed BBC host Alexander Armstrong onto Beat the Chasers.

During Friday’s visit to the ITV studios, the former Coronation Street star welcomed four new celebrity contestants onto the show to win an eye-watering sum of money for their chosen charity. As viewers tuned into the evening quiz show, the dad-of-two welcomed comedians Nish Kumar and Chris McCausland, footballer Mary Earps and TV presenter Alexander Armstrong.

The quartet put their general knowledge to the test as they took on the five chasers in an intense head-to-head battle. First up to the podium was Nish Kumar who successfully raised £25,000 for his chosen charity.

Next to take on the Chasers was England’s goalkeeper who was playing to raise money for the mental health charity CALM. The star got off to a difficult start when she struggled to correctly answer an “obvious” question.

When it came to her head-to-head round, Mary shared her nerves about leaving the show empty handed. She confessed: “I’ve come down from Manchester, haven’t I? So it’s not really ideal if I come back with nothing.”

Bradley reassured her: “You will go home with something, The Chasers give you a thousand pounds anyway” as she interjected: “Yes and the memories of walking down the [famous] tunnel and then going back.”

It was at this point that the host confessed: “Well you don’t, you actually go through. So you don’t even get the chance to go back, you actually keep going through and the doors open up and you go into oblivion out there.”

Luckily, Alexander Armstrong laughed off the cheeky jab

It was at this point that he asked: “Those doors, do you know where you end up?” to which Mary guessed: “The car park?” before he joked: “Pointless.” And it appears as though the star wasn’t joking when he welcomed his rival TV host Alexander onto the show later on in the programme.

As he welcomed his pal on the show, he revealed that both beloved shows are filmed in the same studios as he revealed how he accidentally walked into the wrong studio while filming. He confessed: “When I first started working on this show, I accidentally walked on set while they were filming Pointless.”

Alexander went on to reveal that the pair often meet up after wrapping filming for the day and “exchange notes” together over a cup of tea in their dressing rooms. But Bradley wasn’t the only taking cheeky swipes at his co-stars on the programme.

Later on in the show, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty poked fun at Bradder’s hosting abilities as she thanked Alexander for his impressive job on Pointless. She quipped: “Can I just say how nice it is to meet someone who can actually host a quiz?”

The audience burst into laughter as Bradley took the cheeky comment on the chin before he moved on with the show. Unfortunately, Alexander went down in a blaze of fire and glory when he narrowly missed out on taking home £50,000 for his chosen charity.
