Ed Balls has revealed that he has a secret connection to a Love Island star ahead of their entrance in the show’s All Star series.
Balls, 56, returned to our screens as he presented ITV morning show Good Morning Britain on Monday morning (January 15). He was hosting the show with regular presenter Susanna Reid, as the pair delved into the biggest stories hitting the headlines.
In the entertainment segment of the show, reporter Richard Arnold revealed that the All Stars series of Love Island would be making a return later that night. The show sees ten former Islanders return for a second shot at finding love.

Amongst the line-up for the girls taking part in the dating show are Hannah Elizabeth, Liberty Poole, and Georgia Harrison. As for the boys, Jake Cornish, Chris Taylor and Anton Danyluk are set to make up some of the remaining cast.
Delving into the show, Richard asked Susanna and Ed who they would be rooting for during the course of the show, which will be filmed in South Africa. Balls responded he would be supporting Harrison, as he revealed an unknown connection between the two.
Susanna also jumped in, saying: “You and she formed a kind of bond, didn’t you?” Ed agreed as Reid continued Because she’s gone into some really powerful campaigning.”
Ed gushed over the 29-year-old star, as he branded her “absolutely brilliant”. He added that he believed he encouraged her to become more politically minded, as he helped her during her campaigning.
“I linked her up with a Conservative MP who then, I think, had a big impact and helped change the law,” he confessed. “She’s gone from Love Island to Parliament.”
Harrison has been a key campaigner for more convictions of revenge porn, after she was the victim from former reality star Stephen Bear. Georgia took Bear to court and was able to have him jailed for 21 months for the disclosure of private sexual photographs without consent.
Later on in the show, Love Island cropped up when the voice of the dating show Iain Stirling joined the panel for a discussion. Ed once again gushed over Georgia, where he said she was “great” and repeatedly “brilliant”.
However, Balls was not one to miss out on vital information, saying he wished that former Love Island winner Paige Turley would not be making a return. Voiceover Stirling was left stunned at Balls’ knowledge of the show, as he exclaimed: “Oh my god, Paige Turley, the Scot?!”
Viewers watching the show, however, were less than impressed with Ed’s knowledge as many felt a man of his age should not be watching the show. One disgruntled viewer wrote: “Ed Balls is far too invested in Love Island, it’s creepy as hell!”
Whilst a second viewer simply penned that the former Labour MP should not be paying attention to the programme. They added: “Middle aged men watching Love Island?” followed by a sick emoji.
Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
