Antiques Roadshow left fans in tears as the show honoured a former expert who sadly passed away.
Henry Sandon was one of the most well-known faces on the show and became one of the regular experts on the show. Instantly recognisable for his large glasses and “charming” personality, the show honoured his legacy during Sunday night’s show (January 14).
During the show, host Fiona Bruce paid tribute to Sandon, who passed away on Christmas Day last year. He passed away at the care home he had been residing in, and the BBC show was sure to give him a fitting send-off.

Bruce gave Sandon a touching tribute as she reflected on his life and legacy on the show. As clips of his time on the programme were shown, Fiona moved viewers to tears in a voiceover that ran through his achievements.
Henry first appeared on the show all the way back in 1979 and soon cemented his place on the programme with his invaluable knowledge. He also became a keen ceramics collector and would often be able to give prospective sellers an idea of how priceless their items could be.
Fiona said of Henry: “We recently received the sad news that Henry Sandon, a member of our expert team since the earliest days of the Roadshow, had died aged 95.” As she delivered her voiceover, bosses showed a montage of his time on the show, including moments where he and Fiona had been discussing one item.
In her eulogy, Fiona recalled how Henry had a lust for life and a passion for his work that made him so endearing. “Born in London in 1928, Henry was evacuated during the Second World War and eventually settled in Worcester where his discovery of Roman and Medieval pottery in the garden would lead to a lifelong passion for ceramics,” she said.
“Henry joined the Antiques Roadshow in 1979. His knowledge of porcelain, and in particular Royal Worcester was unparalleled.”
Despite a long career on the show, Henry was last seen on the programme in 2018 when he was aged 90. During the show, he had the viewing public in hysterics after he joked “Can I have it back?” when providing the true value of a striking item.
Sandon’s son John confirmed the sad news days after the expert passed away. At the time, John thanked all the many viewers who “tuned in every Sunday to watch Antiques Roadshow”, adding that “Henry was like a favourite uncle” for fans.
Fans watching the show were left choked up and emotional as they watched the fitting tribute to the legendary figure of the show. One fan took to social media to pay tribute on their own terms, writing: “RIP Henry Sandon, he loved a good pot.”
Another fan added: “Henry Sandon was one of the most delightful experts, truly missed!” Whilst a third fan sent a flurry of sad emojis and simply penned: “Dear old Henry Sandon, RIP.”
Antiques Roadshow airs every Sunday at 8pm on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
