Coronation Street star Millie Gibson revealed she would be okay being written out of Doctor Who in a resurfaced interview.
Gibson, 19, had been starring in the newest series of the hit BBC sci-fi classic, together with new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa. Millie first appeared on the show in the much-anticipated Christmas Day special in 2023 playing Ruby Sunday.
However, whilst she was positively received by the show’s fans, writer Russell T Davies didn’t want to keep the character in. As a result, Millie was given the chop and her character Ruby is set to last just one series before being taken out.

Ruby will only appear in a handful of episodes during the new eight-episode run of the show coming later this year. After this, Millie will be replaced by Varada Sethu, 32, and has already begun filming her scenes on the show.
Gatwa, who has now become the fifteenth iteration of the Doctor, broke his silence recently in showing his support for Millie. In a post shared to his Instagram story, Ncuti shared a snap of the two and wrote that she was his “lil Gemini” followed by a heart emoji.
But Millie, who shot to fame when she joined the cast of the legendary ITV soap in 2019, admitted that she was happy to at least be given a shot. In an interview that has resurfaced since her axe, Gibson revealed that she took a huge risk by leaving the cobbles behind, and was glad it paid off.
Speaking with the Independent last month, Millie said that she had nothing to tie her down. “I’d thought, ‘I’m so young, why the hell not? I’ve not got a mortgage, I’ve not got kids, not got anyone to pay. So if it does go wrong, at least I’ll have tried it.'” she explained.
She recalled how on her last day on set, she began to question whether this was the right move. But as she bowed out of Corrie late last year, she was immediately inundated with offers from other shows.
Millie also joked she was put into “a group call from all three of my agents. Whenever you get that, it either means you’ve been cancelled or you’ve got an amazing part; thankfully, it was the latter.”
The actress is yet to break her own silence on claims that were made on Friday (January 19) that she was dropped by the show. An insider told the Mirror that Millie’s time on the show was up and that she would not be starring in the 2024 Christmas special.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One and the BBC iPlayer in May 2024.
