EastEnders star Bobby Davro suffered stroke after ‘funny turn’ at comedy show

Bobby Davro is recovering from a minor stroke after collapsing at a comedy show.

The 65-year-old comedian and former EastEnders star had walked off stage following after receiving a standing ovation from the audience at his sold-out gig on Thursday (January 18) night.

He suffered what he has described as a “funny turn” at the Coulsdon Comedy Club, South London. It comes after he was forced to cancel appearances after taking ill during a gig.

It comes after the actor, who starred as Vinnie Monks in the BBC soap between 2007 and 2008, is said to be struggling to cope following his fiancée Vicky Wright’s death. Vicky passed away aged 63 in May 2023 after losing her battle with cancer.

A source told The Sun: “Bobby was taken unwell during a gig last week in Surrey. Everyone in the crowd were hugely concerned about him. Bobby has now cancelled his upcoming gigs and is taking some time out. He has been struggling since the loss of his fiancée Vicky last year but threw himself into work to try and keep his mind off it.”

He was scheduled to perform at the House of Stand Up in Sutton, South London, on Thursday (January 25), but has been replaced by comedian Milton Jones. In 2022, Bobby proposed to Vicky after 12 years of dating.

The couple celebrated their happy news with friends and family at their engagement party held at The Kings Arms in Surrey in December 2022. At the time, Vicky told The Sun: “I’m on cloud nine.”

Shortly before Vicky passed away, Bobby exclusively told Daily Star that they were using laughter to cope with Vicky’s devastating pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The impressionist said: “My best advice for someone in a similar position is that laughter is the best medicine.”

Bobby continued: “I always remember this quote, ‘Don’t let the world change your smile – get your smile to change the world’. To see someone as beautiful as her with this illness is horrific. It’s so sad.”

He went on: “It’s extremely, extremely, extremely painful. Thank goodness I’ve got my work, because it keeps my mind off this for a bit of time.” Vicky’s death was announced by her daughter, Kelly Wright-Warhurst. She shared the sad news on her mum’s Twitter page alongside a sweet snap of them smiling.

She wrote: “Hello everyone. Some incredibly devastating news to share as my wonderful mum Vicky has sadly passed away this morning. I wanted to use this platform to let you all know, as I know how much she valued all your love and support in so many ways.”
