Peaky Blinders film to be axed after major star caught with crack cocaine

The Peaky Blinders movie could be axed after star Paul Anderson was caught with crack cocaine.

The actor, who plays Arthur Shelby, pleaded guilty to a string of drug charges –leaving the film’s future in serious doubt.

Anderson was arrested when the boss of a pub in Hampstead, north-west London, smelled fumes coming from a toilet the actor had used, and called police.

Officers found class A drugs – including crack cocaine – and a pipe on him. “Intoxicated” Anderson tested positive for opiates and cocaine. Earlier this week at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court the 48 year old admitted possession of a Class A drug.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing class B amphetamines and two class C prescription drugs. His conviction has plunged the big screen adaptation of the BBC hit into doubt.

The movie, also starring Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby, inset left with Anderson, is now said to be on hold. An insider said it created “huge problems”.

They added: “It will be so hard to have a Peaky Blinders film without such a pivotal character, while it will be tough having him reprise the role as if nothing has happened. The third option would be to cancel the entire thing.”
