Angela Rippon has revealed she “suffered a major medical meltdown” on the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
The 79-year-old TV star, who became the oldest ever Strictly contestant, took to Instagram with a video on Saturday (February 3) to update her fans about her health scare. She was due to perform at a show in Leeds but was forced to drop out at the last minute, The Sun revealed.
Angela had just started to dance when she suffered an asthma attack and couldn’t breathe. The whole drama left her Strictly pro partner Kai Widdrington very worried about her indeed.

Speaking to fans in the clip, she said: “I’ve been off the grid for a couple of days because as some of you may know, I suffered a major medical meltdown at the beginning of the week.
“When we were in Liverpool, I managed to pick up an infection which went straight to my chest. It affected my breathing very badly and as some of you may know I do suffer from asthma.
“On Wednesday evening, when I was about to go on and dance the cha-cha-cha, I’m afraid the infection triggered a serious asthma attack and when I started to dance I stopped breathing which was all a bit scary.
“Not just for me but for Kai as well because I was a bit like a rag doll on the dancefloor.” The telly veteran explained she was instructed to take two days off to recover in bed and prescribed an “impressive regime” of medication.
She added: “Fortunately, we always have paramedics in the arenas when we perform and when I came off they gave me oxygen so I was able to breathe again.” Luckily, she was able to perform in Manchester on Saturday night.
