Gladiators host Bradley Walsh has a secret connection to the BBC show – which fans will be surprised to know.
The presenter is now fronting the show alongside his son Barney – but a former contestant revealed how Bradley has a “great connection” to the programme.
Cobra star Michael Wilson told us: “But what is nice is we used to see Barney when he was a baby. Yeah, well, Bradley was married or had started dating our head cheerleader Donna Derby. The cheerleaders used to hype the crowd up and get the kids down and be great with the audience participating and happy.”

“I first met Bradley before he was famous backstage, with his daughter from a previous relationship, I thought he was a nut case trying to sneak in and break into the arena, I went up to him and said ‘What you doing?’ and he said ‘Oh I’m Donna’s boyfriend’. Then he was there all the time and he even ended up doing Celebrity Gladiators. He’s a nice bloke – and there’s a fantastic connection to the show there.”
Cobra also went on to share his thoughts on the current hosts. He said: “I think Bradley Walsh and the son doesn’t work really. I think they need a sportsman maybe. But Bradley is everywhere, he’s on everything, and it’s too saturated. He’s a nice bloke though.
“I think they should’ve tried to get someone like Chris Akabusi or they need someone younger like Michelle Ackerley, she’d be fantastic, she’s great on every programme that she does.”
Gladiators fans have been left divided on the choice of hosts since the reboot hit screens. Many have taken to social media to air their thoughts, with one saying: “Bradley & Barney Walsh are the only negative on the #Gladiators reboot. Everything else is a joy to watch.”
A second ranted: “#Gladiators I love Bradley Walsh but for me, Barney isn’t working, he’s not a natural presenter, he looks out if his depth. I feel this is nepotism at its finest.”
However, some fans loved the pairing, with one typing: “This new series of #gladiators is pretty tidy. Don’t understand the hullabaloo about Bradley and Barney Walsh presenting. Doing a grand job imo.” While another supported: “However, there were some viewers who did back the father and son. One fan typed: “I just have to see Bradley and Barney Walsh and I’m happy.”
