Gladiator ‘shocked but flattered’ after fans sent snaps in stockings and suspenders

Gladiator Cobra star Michael Wilson has been flooded with fan messages since finding fame.

These days he finds them in his Instagram inbox rather than in the post like his heyday on the BBC show. Nevertheless, he claims they are still just as “rude”.

Michael said: “They are actually really rude. They send pictures of them wearing stockings and suspenders. I don’t know why they think it’s enticing because it isn’t. Some of them are shocking but I guess it’s flattering really – but I can’t say I’m interested.”

The amount of messages he gets nowadays is only a fraction of the fan mail he used to get, he claims. He also stated that he used to receive “so much” public hair in the post that he could’ve made a “wig”.

Michael told us: “Back in the day, there we didn’t have phones with cameras and social media, instead we just got loads and loads of stuff in the post and fan mail for me anyway.

“Right from the very start, we were up in a press office where someone handled my post for me, and they said ‘Oh, sometimes people seem to like sending you really filthy letters.

“Sometimes they seem to send public hair in the post’. I laughed and said ‘Well, you better keep them and we will make a wig for Wolf’. Well, c’mon he used to talk about being bald and stuff all the time, and I used to tell him to shave it off. After he eventually did it, he said he wished he had done it years ago.”

The TV star, 60, also had some advice for the newest generation of Gladiators who are currently starring on Saturday night TV. Michael warned: “Keep it in your trousers, you will have the girls and boys throwing themselves at you, just don’t bite on it.”

Gladiators airs every Saturday at 5:50pm on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
