Avid Bargain Hunt viewers are usually able to guess whether an item is going to make a soaring profit or a disappointing loss when it goes under the hammer — but not today.
Fans were actually left completely stunned by this afternoon’s episode (February 7) after the blue team made an unexpected profit on their £135 “big spend”. These big money items, which can cost anywhere above £75, rarely make profit but it’s one of the challenges competitors must complete to make sure all their items stay in the game.
Today’s blue team, Callum and Caitlin struggled to make a decision on what to splash the cash on until the very last minute. The couple had spotted a few tables with bold designs half way through their search but didn’t know if it would be worth the risk of spending £140 on either of them.

But one table in particular stuck out to them. Caitlin argued that the wooden detailing in the legs would be seen as a “mark of quality”, while Callum said that the bold design would “speak to someone”.
However, they still had 10 minutes to browse so didn’t make a decision until the very last minute when they returned to the dealer to try and haggle the price down. With seconds to spare, they shook hands on a slight discount of £130 — leaving viewers concerned about their chances of a loss at auction.

Taking to X, one BBC viewer said: “I like that table, but I doubt it will make a profit.” Another added: “The phone will be popular, but the panic buy table will lose them the contest.”
Bourne End auctioneer Hugo Lemon loved the 60s/70s style coffee table. He said: “I think it’s got good colour to it. I think it’s got the retro look to it and I’m hoping that it’ll do rather well.”

Although, the expert estimated that it would bring in between £70 to £100, which would mean a loss for the blues when it went under the hammer. But shockingly he was proven wrong as the table actually made a profit.
Much to the delight of the contestants, who were cheering for each bid, the item sold for £160. Viewers were immediately shocked by the sale as they returned to social media to give their thoughts.
One user said: “I’m shocked! That table made a profit!” Meanwhile, another added: “The table is a rare bit of actual quality on.”
