Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden caused a bit of a stir on the ITV show when she broke a major rule during the live auditions.
The 52 year old mum was so taken by a comedy act in Manchester that she hit her golden buzzer to send them straight to the semi-finals, forgetting she’d already used it for a musical theatre singer at an earlier audition. However, it seems Simon Cowell and the TV bosses didn’t mind too much, possibly because Bruno Tonioli had made the same mistake on his first time on the show.
Amanda’s chosen act is a Japanese man who uses his hair to create impressions. A TV insider told The Sun: “Bruno was almost moved to tears watching his golden buzzer dance act – and was first to slam down on the button so hard that it cracked. He was shortly followed by Simon, who sent a Japanese dance act through to the live shows.” They added: “And finally, Amanda was impressed by a female theatre singer that she was keen to give a shot in the live rounds and was last to press the buzzer.”
Simon addressed the crowd during a live event saying: “I’m very excited, we don’t know who is going to come on and we’ll meet people together. This year there’s just one rule: be as naughty as you want.” Unlike Amanda, Bruno ended up breaking a rule when he got too excited by a dance act, the Ghetto Kids from Uganda.
In an interview with Mailonline, Bruno stated after breaking his buzzer too early: “Well, that was pretty quick! It was the second or third day. I was laughing my head off thinking, ‘You definitely haven’t watched the show, have you?’ And then I thought, ‘Actually, this is brilliant because it has never happened before’. And just looking at Bruno’s face, he was happy. Then when someone ran up to him and said, ‘Well, you’re supposed to do it at the end,’ he was mortified! “
Adding: “I said, ‘It doesn’t matter, Bruno. You just gave them the golden buzzer. Who cares?'” Simon reportedly wasn’t bothered by Bruno’s blunder due to believing the act deserved their spot in the semi-finals. BGT’s Twitter page also shared Bruno’s mistake with the tweet: “Nothing’s gonna stop Ghetto Kids’ POWER performance… Not even a Golden Buzzer halfway through!”
Bruno confessed: “Now, I hold my hands up. I realise now I was supposed to wait until after they’d performed to press it! I just felt it in my bones and went for it!” He also said: “Honestly, I had no idea. Nobody really ever explained that process to me. All I knew was I had a golden buzzer, but they never told me when I was supposed to press it!”
