ABBA stars Bjorn and Benny are blocking plans for Mamma Mia! 3. The pair worry that the group’s back catalogue doesn’t have enough songs to make it work. Producer Judy Craymer, inset, had success around the world with the first Mamma Mia! film in 2008, and a sequel in 2018.
In recent years she has been trying to get the green light for a third one, but she isn’t having much luck. Judy told me: “A third movie is something I want to do very much. The studio wants to do it. Benny and Bjorn need a bit more persuasion.

“They’re saying, ‘There aren’t enough songs’. And I say, ‘There are enough songs and I know how they could work’. There is so much you can do with those songs.”
Judy is confident she can convince the likes of Amanda Seyfried and Julie Walters to return.
She said: “The cast had a great time making the first two films. Julie said she is going to retire from acting, but the one thing she would still do is another Mamma Mia! film.
“I really think there’s big love from the people who worked on the films and also from the audiences. All the generations enjoy it.”
It’s already been six years since the second film, which starred Lily James, was released in cinemas.
And if a third one happens, it won’t be any time soon. Judy added: “It will take time. Nothing happens that fast. But I hope it does happen.”
