Countryfile presenter Anita Rani has upset fans who didn’t like the way she pronounced a word on the show.
Viewers were not happy with the star’s mistake during the episode on Sunday February 18, and took to social media to share their frustration. On the episode, Anita and Joe Crowley visited the Colesbourne estate in the Cotswolds.
At this time of year, the gardens are filled with millions of snowdrops. Anita chatted with a snowdrop specialist, while Joe learned about how these flowers help feed our winter wildlife and inspire local artists.

Datshiane Navanayagam went to Devon to find out how communities are working together to keep village pubs and shops open. During the programme, the park’s owner Sir Henry Elwes joined Anita to chat about the spring blooms.
But viewers were not happy when Anita pronounced the word “Lieutenant” the American way in her introduction. One viewer said on X: “Anita #CountryfilePlease use the UK English of “lieutenant” and not the US pronunciation.
“Not for the first time recently on # bbc have presenters used US pronunciation of words.” Another wrote: “Mispronounciation of lieutenant on #bbc Countryfile tonight by Anita Rani.
Another sign that the corporation and its “journalists” no longer have any standards.” A third commented: “What’s the point of Anita Rani on Countryfile? Sorry but she hasn’t got a clue.”
“#countryfile. Someone tell Anita how to pronounce lieutenant. We are not American,” another added. Sir Henry, who is 88 years old, served as a District and County Councillor in Gloucestershire for 32 years and was Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire between 1992 and 2010.
Anita, who joined Countryfile in 2015, ruffled feathers again after pronouncing the classic plant Hellebore as “Hellbore.” One person wrote on X, : “………and Hellebore not Hellbore. #countryfile.”
BBC Countryfile airs every Sunday on BBC Two and also on BBC iPlayer.
