Jonnie Irwin’s widow Jess Holmes admitted his death ‘still doesn’t feel real’ as she shared an emotional update with her followers online, the Mirror reports.

Earlier this month, the mum-of-three announced that the former A Place in the Sun presenter had died at the age 50. The broadcaster had battled with terminal lung cancer for more than three years after he was diagnosed after he was initially given six months to live in 2020.

A few weeks after his death, Jess took to her Instagram page to share an update on how she has been doing, confessing “the sadness is huge.” She told her supporters: “It still doesn’t feel real. The sadness is huge.

“I can’t even let myself think what another week without Jonnie will be like let alone another year another 10 years. I have been truly touched by all the support from friends and strangers.

“But nothing compares to how I have been picked up by my family and Jonnie’s sisters, your support and love means everything to me. I am loving watching the boys enjoy some days in the sun and having a change of scene is just what we needed.”

Their loyal followers and concerned friends flooded to the comments section to show their support online. One user penned: “You are in so many people’s thoughts. Take care.”

Meanwhile another commented: “Oh Jess, my heart goes out to you and the boys!! Jonnie’s story was so so sad and so undeserved!! My thoughts are with you all.”

A third echoed: “You and the boys have been in my thoughts during this time of grief. Words are not enough. Jonnie was an inspiration to so many people and he’ll never be forgotten. Sending hugs.”

A fourth chimed in with: “It’s good to see a post from you. I find it hard to imagine how sad you must be. You are incredibly brave.”

His death was confirmed in a devastating post on Instagram at the beginning of February. A spokesperson for the family wrote: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing.

“A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit.”

“At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss. Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated.

“As we remember the beautiful moments shared with Jonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts. Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on.

“Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten,” they added.
