Ewen MacIntosh had a number of health issues before his death aged 50.
The actor’s management company announced on Wednesday (February 21) that the actor had passed away after spending his final days at a care home in Darlington. Ewen, best known for his role as Keith Bishop in The Office, lived a very private life but gave fans an update on his health in early 2022.
After he was admitted to hospital, he shared a selfie from his bed, hooked up to an IV drip. The late star wrote: “Bad times for me I’m afraid chums. Stay strong out there.”

Ewen received many messages of support, including one from talkSPORT’s Max Rushden who wrote: “Sending you all the best mate x.” Ewen passed away peacefully at Willow Green Care Home, where he had been receiving care for the last few months.
In a statement, his family thanked the care home for supporting the comedian. Ed Scott, the CEO of Dodged A Bullet Music and a friend of Ewen’s, confirmed he had been receiving treatment in the lead up to his death.
Of his friends passing, the executive producer said: “I am completely devastated by the loss of my very good friend Ewen MacIntosh. He may have had a famous face known by millions as Keith from The Office but the person inside is what I will most remember.”
He added: “Ewen was so full of empathy, kindness, and integrity and above all a really good man. Big hugs to his mum and dad Sara and Ewen Sr, his brother Colin and his family, and all his mates and fans.”
Paying tribute to those who cared for his late pal, Ed penned: “Thanks to the incredible care and love provided by the wonderful medical staff and especially the nurses who all loved him when he brought a smile to their days.
“I saw first hand the empathy and incredible care they gave him was just so reassuring during the toughest of times and am forever grateful to them all.” Before becoming a fan favourite as Keith in the British sitcom, Ewen worked in marketing research.
Despite limited screen time, his role in The Office kickstarted his acting career and he went on to appear in Little Britain and EastEnders. In 2022, in his final role, Ewen made a cameo appearance in the final series of Ricky Gervais’ After Life.
