Peter Crouch says he and wife Abbey Clancy are like legendary Only Fools duo

Peter Crouch reckons he and wife Abbey Clancy are like Rodney Trotter and Cassandra from Only Fools And Horses.

The pair were asked by a listener to their The Therapy Crouch podcast which sitcom couple they would say they were most like. Crouchy, 43, said: “I’ve got mine – Rodney and Cassandra, all day!

“I look like Rodney, although you’re not so much Cassandra.” It’s not the first time that the ex-Liverpool and England striker has spoken about looking like hapless Rodders.

Peter revealed fans used to belt out the classic Beeb sitcom’s theme tune when he broke through as a young striker at QPR. Embracing the comparison five years ago on the This Feeling TV show he sang: “No income tax, no vat. 60 grand transfer fee.

“Black or white, rich or poor, Peter Crouch is gonna score. God bless Peter Crouch.” But Abbey thought they were more like American sitcom stars Will and Grace or Chandler and Monica from Friends.

She said: “We’d be Will and Grace, but you wouldn’t be gay.” Abbey and Pete, who have been married since 2011, started The Therapy Crouch in early 2023. They often share their domestic disagreements with the public on their podcast, but they’re playful bickering makes them a natural comedy duo.

Their latest disagreement saw Abbey’s unusual house rule branded “ridiculous” by Peter. She shared with The Mirror: “He’s getting kind of annoyed with me because I’m getting a new floor in the house. And I made up this rule now that no one’s allowed to use the front door because I don’t want any mess in the hallway.

“I want everyone to use the side door so all the s*** can stay there and my house will always look nice. And he was just like, ‘This is ridiculous’.”

Peter then moaned: “The front door has become ‘No access’!” Despite their squabbles, they enjoy each other’s company and make each other laugh everyday.

“The key to a good relationship is that obviously the attraction has to be there in the first place and you know, certainly for me it still is,” Peter said, laughing. He added: “You have to laugh every day. Lots of people have their partner and they have their mates that quite often they prefer to go out with.

“Whereas I feel like I have just as good a time with Abs as I do with any of my pals. I’m at home with her every day and I find her entertaining.” Abbey joked: “You didn’t say that this morning, you said I was a ‘pain in the bum’!”
