Ben Shephard confirms final GMB episode before This Morning move as he makes ‘upgrade’ dig

Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard has confirmed his exit date from the show – and it’s sooner than expected.

Last week it was announced that Ben, 49, along with Cat Deeley would be taking over This Morning, after Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby left last year. So now after a decade, Ben will bid goodbye to Good Morning Britain.

In Thursday’s episode alongside co-host Kate, they discussed his departure and upcoming role on This Morning. Kate, 56, disclosed a secret sign hinting he was destined for the rival ITV daytime slot.

Starting off the show, she jokingly said to Ben “I’m not speaking to you, I can’t even hear you anymore! You are dead to me now.”

Kate cheekily fumed: “You’re a Traitor!” but Kate pointed out the evident signs which indicated Ben was bound to join This Morning.

Carrying on with the digs at Ben, she asked Ranvir: “Although the signs were there, Ranvir, do you remember him going on about the cheesecake on This Morning? Was it the cheesecake that swung it?”

Ben confessed: “To be fair, the cheesecake is spectacular and the co-host is pretty lovely too. I’m upgrading from Kate to Cat!”

Ben said: “Thank you very much for the amazing messages that I have had. Obviously, it’s something I considered very, very carefully because these guys have been my family for the last 10 years for some of them and way, way longer for us [Kate].

“So, it’s not something that I’ve taken lightly but it feels like quite an exciting opportunity.” Ben then let everyone know that his final day has been confirmed – and it’s Friday (February 23).

Cat Deeley will be his new co-host

Kate vowed they would have a good time on his last day of the show as she said she’s “clawing onto him”. But Ben reminded his co-stars that he’s not going too far.

Ben said: “It’s literally the other side of the wall so I’m really, really not going far. Thank you for the amazing messages and tomorrow is going to be my last day on Good Morning Britain.”

Cat and Ben will be the new This Morning hosting duo from Monday through Thursday, while Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary will continue their duties on a Friday.
