A guest on BBC Breakfast was forced to apologise for a “patronising” comment.
Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty teamed up to host the latest instalment of the flagship programme on Thursday (February 22). One of the top stories of the day was about shortages in medications.
There has always been shortages in medications for common conditions such as asthma, ADHD and diabetes. Now, it has been revealed that the drugs used to treat epilepsy are also in short supply.

Epilepsy is a serious neurological condition affecting more than half a million people in the UK – many of whom rely on accessing medication on a daily basis. Sharing more information on the matter was Claire Pelham and Thorrun Govind.
Claire is the Chief Executive of the Epilepsy Society while Thorrun is a Pharmacist and healthcare lawyer. Claire touched upon why she thinks there are currently shortages for epilepsy medication.
She explained that while preparing for Brexit, drugs manufacturers agreed to have a six-week rolling supply so that they never ran out of medication. Claire added: “What we suspect, it’s a suspicion, not evidence, is that they’ve reverted to just in time delivery now.”
Claire determined that this was done because it’s a cheaper option. Asked what people can do right now, she responded: “For the individual person, the most important thing is not to become stressed and to try and keep calm and plan ahead.”
Naga pointed out that the comment could sound patronising before Claire immediately apologised. “No because I want to aid with this,” Naga responded. She continued: “The reason you do this is because stress and anxiety can be a trigger”. To which Claire agreed.
Last month Naga sparked concern amongst fans as she was missing from BBC Breakfast for three weeks. The 48-year-old usually presents the show with Charlie, 61, from Thursday to Saturday each week.
A number of other BBC Breakfast presenters stepped in for Naga, including Sally Nugent and Nina Warhurst, who returned in January after six months off following the birth of her third child. The broadcaster finally returned to the red sofa earlier this month, but her mystery absence was never addressed.
