The Chase star comes clean about ITV show’s prize money as fans probe for answers

The Chase star Darragh Ennis has answered a burning question from fans.

Viewers have long wondered about what the quizzers pocket on the hit ITV show, which is hosted by Bradley Walsh. And Dublin-born scientist Darragh – aka The Menace – has finally spilled the beans in a TikTok.

The answer, he says, is no. In the video, the TV star said he was asked about it all the time and was also often questioned about his salary.

He told fans: “A lot of people ask me, ‘Do we get the money when we beat contestants on The Chase? Do we win that money?’”

“I wish we did, I really wish we did,” said the star. “I would be a lot better off, believe me, but no, we don’t. That money isn’t actually real until someone wins, it is just numbers on a screen until it’s won, so it just disappears.”

Darragh showed off his funny side when he mentioned that people also like to ask how much he and the other Chasers make. The star, who made his debut on the programme in 2020, said: “People also like to ask me a lot how much chasers get paid, so I finally thought I’ll just tell you… This is exactly how much it is…”

As fans waited eagerly, the camera panned up and Darragh pointed a finger at some words that appeared above him as he smirked at fans. “None of your business,” the hilarious message said.

Viewers have often pondered what the Chasers might get paid. While they haven’t shared details, Chaser Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty did reveal a couple of years back that the quizzers actually receive a flat fee per episode.

And Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett has previously said that filming spin-off series Beat The Chasers is seriously lucrative. “That’s the week we earn like Premier League footballers so of course I’ll do it,” he told Daily Star. “If I could get away with it I’d purge half of them because the fewer Chasers there are, the more money I get.”
