Phillip Schofield ‘desperate’ to make TV comeback nine months after leaving ITV

Phillip Schofield is reportedly “desperate” to make a TV comeback nine months after sensationally quitting his roles with ITV.

The 61-year old left This Morning in May amid reports of a feud with co-star Holly Willoughby. He left the broadcaster completely after admitting to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.

Schofield is said to to be hoping to hold “meetings with producers” over the coming months in a bid to get his career back on track. The former Children’s BBC presenter hasn’t appeared on screen since his ITV exit, with Emmerdale even cutting his cameo appearance from a re-run of a classic episode earlier this month.

That all could be about to change later this year though – if Schofield can persuade TV bosses to wipe the slate clean. An insider told Closer magazine of his high hopes: “Phil is desperate to return to TV and is hoping to have meetings with producers over the coming months. He was concerned about things being rehashed, but now feels he can move forward. He wants to leave the past where it is.

Phillip Schofield is reportedly “harbouring hopes of a return to TV”

“Phil thinks viewers will give him a second chance. He accepts he’s very unlikely to ever work on ITV again, but there are other channels out there and he believes he still has a huge amount to offer as a broadcaster.” They reportedly added: “He may well do another TV interview before returning as a presenter, and he’s also writing another book. He wants to use that as a chance to tell his story. Everyone deserves a second chance, and Phil hopes he gets it.”

Schofield hasn’t been seen on television since May 2023

Daily Star has reahed out to Phillip’s representative for a comment. It comes after the news that Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley will replace Phillip and Holly on This Morning as permanent hosts.  Ben, 49, stood down from Good Morning Britain after 10 years to take over the role in emotional scenes which aired last week.

So You Think You Can Dance host Cat, 47, and Ben are due to relaunch the show next month. Ben said: “For the last 10 years I’ve been waking up with our ITV daytime audience on GMB and I now look forward to spending time with Cat, welcoming the viewers home after the school run or from their early morning routines, with a cup of tea and a mix of everything that makes This Morning so loved.”

Phillip previously presented Dancing On Ice as well as This Morning

His new co-host Cat said This Morning was “like having your friends over”, adding: “Ben and I both know how much people love it, and with the help of an amazing team of people, we’re going to do our best to take care of it.”
