Coronation Street fans are fretting over the future of the ITV soap after it was pulled from TV schedules this week – with episodes failing to air on Wednesday (February 28) and both Emmerdale and EastEnders shuffled around to make way for FA cup matches.
Now fans of the soap are fretting that it could signal future chaos for the soap, despite being promised a bumper episode on Thursday (Feburary 29) and business as usual on Friday (March 1). On Tuesday, EastEnders was yanked from BBC schedules for the Blackburn Rovers v Newcastle United match, while Emmerdale was pushed ahead for the Man City v Luton Town clash.
Worried Redditors took to the social media site to comment on the recent developments – suggesting it isn’t a good sign that TV bosses think sport is more important than the dramas on the cobbles or in the Dales. One wrote: “Is ITV trying to kill off Corrie?

“I mean they keep cancelling the show without any or much warning – it takes some effort to keep up with the air times these days. The writing is awful and the storylines are stupid for the most part. It seems that Coronation Street has become the neglected Cinderella stepchild of ITV.”
Another posted: “I series link Corrie but sometimes find my recorder loses it in the schedule with it being shunted around. Fortunately I have ITVX premium so can always watch it uninterrupted or record it on +1. They need to inform us when the next episode is as the credits roll, well at least when it is moved.”
Somebody else agreed: “I like the Monday, Wednesday, Friday routine. I’m prepared to watch Corrie on these days and it’s so annoying when they change it. I don’t want long gaps and then broadcasts on consecutive days, it’s just crap!”
Another doom-monger penned: “I don’t think they’re trying to kill it off. But, and there is a very big but here, they are digging themselves into a hole, that will ultimately place Corrie into its grave. Corrie isn’t what it used to be. And I think the fact we’re getting hour long episodes now are playing a major part in that. An hour of Corrie, is too much Corrie.”
Over on the cobbles, it’s no wonder fans are desperate to find out what’s going to happen next, after Tommy Orpington actor Matt Milburn teased he could exit the soap altogether following his steamy affair with Tracy Barlow. He told Daily Star that he’s worried about Tracy’s murderous past after killing her ex Charlie Stubbs.

He said: “I think he needs to really tread carefully with how he’s going to proceed with this relationship knowing that Tracy’s got a penchant for acting out. I think he needs to be a little bit careful. I don’t know if he does know that [she killed Charlie], it’s a good point. I’m not sure. She’s quite forthcoming in letting Tommy know about other people’s murderous intentions and things that they’ve done.”
