The Chase host Bradley Walsh says ‘that’s all we need’ as he makes dig at co-stars

A contestant on The Chase got more than he bargained for on Thursday’s installment of the ITV show as he proved no match for The Chaser.

Bradley Walsh began proceedings by introducing Mia, Mariette, Holly And Chris, with the latter facing off first. Speaking to Brad, Chris, a 40-year old from Dundee revealed he works as a neuro-scientist and therefore hoped to play against Darragh Ennis – who also works in the same occupation.

“It’d be great if we get him today – that’d be handy wouldn’t it?” said Bradley excitedly. Chris replied: “We work in very different things though. I heard he works on insects, but I work on the human brain.”

It was no surprise therefore that ‘The Menace’ soon emerged from the shadows to take his place at the top of the cash ladder.

As the two boffins greeted one another, it prompted 63-year old host Bradley to quip: “That’s all we need! It’s going to be an hour of nerd-off! It’s going to be some show isn’t it? It’ll be laugh-a-month with these two.”

The smile was soon wiped off Chris’ face however, as Darragh brushed him aside with relative ease. Chris answered seven questions correctly in the cash-builder round earning £7,000 for the team.

Asked by Darragh if he wanted to risk it for a staggering £80,000 or play it safe for £2,000, Chris chose to play for his original sum, allowing him a two-place head start. Stumbling with his answers, however, Darragh soon caught up, ruling Chris out of the Final Chase round and a split of the foursome’s potential winnings.

Earlier this week, meanwhile, Darragh took to TikTok to answer a question from fans about whether The Chasers pocket any cash they prevent contestants from winning. “I wish we did, I really wish we did,” said the star. “I would be a lot better off, believe me, but no, we don’t. That money isn’t actually real until someone wins, it is just numbers on a screen until it’s won, so it just disappears.”

Darragh then showed off his funny side when he mentioned that people also like to ask how much he and the other Chasers are paid. “People also like to ask me a lot how much chasers get paid, so I finally thought I’ll just tell you… This is exactly how much it is…”

As fans waited eagerly, the camera panned up and Darragh pointed a finger at some words that appeared above him as he smirked at fans. “None of your business,” the hilarious message said.
