The Apprentice fans have hailed the biggest win in the BBC show’s 18-year history.
During Thursday’s (February 29) episode, one team gained a staggering amount of cash in sponsorship as part of the series’ Formula-E challenge. The latest installment of Lord Sugar’s show saw candidates tasked with launching a new Formula-E (motorsport involving electric cars) team before pitching it to companies for financial backing.
Opening the show at the Battersea Power Station complex, the host explained: “For your task I want you to launch a new Formula-E team. You need to create a brand, host a launch event, and secure sponsorship with potential partners.”

Then, after mixing the teams up, Lord Sugar told the candidates he’d seen them in a couple of days time in the boardroom. After devising their marketing campaigns and designing their cars, the two teams sought revenue by selling advertising space on their vehicles.
Despite its hideous orange and green colour scheme, project manager Paul managed to convince a firm it paid homage to the Indian flag prompting it to shell out a staggering £15 million – adding to his team’s £9.8 million 24 hours earlier. Their final total was £38.7 million – more than double that of their competitors – led by project manager Tre.
Responding to Paul and Flo’s calmness in negotiation, viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their shock. “They’re talking about millions like they’re tenners!” one user declared. Another joked: “Last week they were arguing about saving a pound on oysters; now they’re flinging millions around like Romanov In his prime!”
A third penned: “They are bargaining with millions like they were with pence over oysters last week.” And a fourth questioned: “Millions?! this is real money and not Monopoly money?!”
Lord Sugar himself appeared to be taken aback by the success, questioning whether or not the offer had in fact been a mistake. In the end he couldn’t help but be impressed by the team’s performance though, as his co-star aide explained afterwards: “[He was] thrilled. He couldn’t believe it when he saw the number.
“He was like, ‘Are you sure? Has someone made a mistake? Can you double check it?’ That figure in sponsorship is a huge amount!”
As a reward, meanwhile, Lord Sugar sent the victors to an indoor skydiving fun day at the O2 arena. “Very well done, he simply said at the end of the show. “Off you go.”
The win dwarfs the show’s previous record, which occurred in an electric bike challenge in 2015. Then, a team of hopefuls scooped £1.2 million – exactly three times that of their opponents.
