Celebrity Big Brother fans work out ‘real’ reason behind voting rule switch-up

Fans of Celebrity Big Brother have worked out what they believe to be the “real” reason why there has been a change in the rules.

The new series of the hit show is set to kick off in a matter of days, with a host of famous faces set to walk through the iconic doors of the Big Brother House. The show will be broadcast simultaneously on ITV1 and ITV2 in the hopes of attracting more viewers to the celeb series.

But ahead of the new show, producers have implemented a change to the rules that affects who stays and who goes. Instead of the civilian series, where the voting public are calling to evict their least favourite housemate, the celebrity version will see the public vote on who they want to save from being evicted.

As fans of the show pondered the switch-up in rules, some put it down to the theory that bosses want to keep more expensive housemates in longer to prove their value. As well as this, others suggested that high-profile stars with larger fanbases will want to see them through to the end of the show to keep viewership up.

It follows other series of the show, which saw big names go early on in the show despite their popularity. Now, producers are keen to ensure that bigger names go further to add some tension.

Taking to social media following the announcement by AJ Odudu and Will Best, one fan wrote: “The producers knew they had to change it to save the show as these icons last year were evicted earlier than they should of. Now let’s hope they do Vote To Save for future civilian series too.”

A second user that follows the show also gave their two pennies: “Voting to save literally just means the most popular (famous) one will win.” Whilst a third added: “Sounds like ITV just want to do BB in the nicest way possible! Vote to save will possibly mean the most famous/followed will probably win.”

Voting to save is not a new concept on the show, as Channel 5 toyed with the idea on a number of occasions when it broadcast the show. This was in contrast to Channel 4, who exclusively used the idea of ‘voting to evict’.

The shake-up in voting came after the line-up for the show was supposedly revealed by The Sun. Amongst the line-up of the programme, Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu, the Princess of Wales’ uncle and music mogul Louis Walsh are all rumoured to be entering the House.

As well as this, bosses at the show made another announcement that there will be two live evictions each week as opposed to just one. This is to cut the length of the show down from six weeks to just three.

Celebrity Big Brother kicks off on Monday (March 4) at 9pm on ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX.
