EastEnders fans reckon they’ve figured out how Whitney Dean will leave Albert Square – and it’s a surprise twist involving Sonia Fowler.
Shocking recent scenes saw pregnant Whitney struck by a car following the return of Bianca Jackson (played by Patsy Palmer). Traveling back with Zack to see Bianca in Milton Keynes, Whitney met Britney, a neglected girl whose mum was more concerned with her drug habit than her daughter.
After coming across Britney searching for food in bins, Whitney decided to care for the young girl herself. Things heated up when Whitney and Bianca had a row with Britney’s mum which lead to Britney running towards a moving car.

To save her, Whitney was hit by the car and got knocked unconscious. Fans of the soap reckon Whitney will die and the baby will survive, but the little one will be cared for by Sonia, who made a surprising appearance in the episode.
One viewer claimed on X: “Definitely getting the vibe that the baby will survive somehow and Sonia will adopt it, was very random of all the Sonia talk and then she suddenly pops up out of nowhere,” while another shared: “I think Whitney will go into a coma and Sonia will have her baby otherwise I don’t get Sonia being part of this storyline.”
Whitney star Shona McGarty has confirmed she’s leaving the soap, but how it will happen is still a mystery. Last year, she opened up about her tough decision to leave, saying: “It wasn’t an easy decision because I’ve made so many friends. I’ve seen people come and go, and meanwhile, Whitney has been one of the longest-standing characters.”
“I’ve had so much fun and done so many storylines, some of which have been sensitive, and I’ve been honoured to be trusted with such heavy stuff year after year. So I’m going to be sad to say goodbye to my friends and family, but it was the right decision for me as I want to do other things. After 15 years, I’ve had a pretty good run!”
Talking more about her departure, she said: “I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving EastEnders. I have loved my years in the show. I have been trusted with some incredible storylines and have made amazing friendships – and family – which will endure.”
