Brits vote for favourite onscreen families – with Only Fools and Horses clan second

Brits have voted for the TV and movie families they’d most like to live with – and a Harry Potter favourite comes out on top.

The charming and ever popular Weasleys (19%) narrowly beat Only Fools and Horses’ Trotters (14%), with The Royle Family’s Royles (12%) coming in third. The real-life Kardashian-Jenners (11%) bagging fourth place.

Other families Brits dream of nipping next door to borrow a cup of milk from, included the Barlows from Coronation Street, Modern Family’s quirky tribe, The Dunphys and the Crawleys from Downton Abbey.

One in 20 (5%) would even love to live next door to the hedonistic Saltburn family, Lord and Lady Catton, as played by Richard E. Grant and Rosamund Pike.

The research, commissioned by Bluestone National Park Resort, also revealed as many as 97% feel having good neighbours and a community around them is good for their mental health.

One in five (20%) insisted they couldn’t live without their neighbours and 57% said having good neighbours gave them a sense of belonging.

In fact, over half (55%) feel that strong neighbourly relationships are key to happy communities, with almost half of respondents (47%) believing that having a strong community around them helps to build confidence. The research also revealed that across the nation, men (51%) rely on their community for confidence, more than women (44%).

The fab holiday spot for families, Bluestone in the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is showing everyone how great it is to have good neighbours and friends around. They’re doing this with their cool “Welcome to our Neighbourhood” thing.

Claire Lewis, Head of Guest Experience at Bluestone, said: “Creating a sense of community at our resort is a huge part of our offering to guests. We want to provide not just luxury accommodation, but a space for families and friends to create unforgettable memories together.

“From kayaking across our lake, exploring the beautiful natural surroundings of Pembrokeshire’s beaches, coast path and harbours, to recharging in the resort’s award-winning Well Spa, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

It’s a bit of a shock, but people from London are the most likely to be mates with their neighbours (73 %), and then it’s the folks from Edinburgh (70%), Stoke-on-Trent (68%) and Plymouth (65%).

The study also showed that the over 60s are the ones who say hi to their neighbours the most (86%), while the young ones, Gen Z, don’t do it as much (47%).

Even though we all think having a community vibe is key, four out of ten (46%) don’t even know their neighbours’ full names, and more than one out of ten (13%) haven’t got a clue what the people next door are called.

One in 20 (4%) confess they totally ignore their neighbours when they walk past each other, with a third (36 %) insisting they’re chuffed their neighbour doesn’t speak to them, as they don’t fancy a natter.

And for the fifth of Brits (19%) who haven’t had a chinwag with their neighbours recently, it’s been over four months since they exchanged a word. Yet almost one in twenty Britons (4%) say they’ve never had a chat with their neighbours.

When asked what makes someone a top-notch neighbour, the most important qualities were being trustworthy (71%), quiet (57%) and kind (53%).
