Casualty fans issue warning after ‘horrendous’ scene ahead of Charlie’s exit

Casualty fans have issued a major warning after being left heartbroken over Charlie’s sad exit from the medical drama.

Viewers were pleasantly surprised when actress Sunetra Sarker appeared as a temporary doctor in Wyvern’s emergency department, much to Dylan Keogh’s surprise. However, senior charge nurse, Charlie Fairhead, wasn’t shocked as he and Dr Zoe Hanna (Sunetra) had dinner together the previous night.

It was revealed that Sarker would be returning as Zoe for two episodes, to spend time with Charlie before his departure from the show. Derek Thompson, who plays Nurse Fairhead, is one of the original cast members from the show which started on September 6, 1986.

Earlier in the episode, fans witnessed a massive crash involving several cars and a lorry carrying gas canisters. But criminal Kyle Marsh drove straight into the lorry, reports the Mirror.

His actions led to a big bang before he was whisked off to the ED, with Dr Stevie Nash puzzled about his police escort. “He tried to leg it with a bag of drugs, a big bag,” paramedic Teddy clarified.

After being nabbed, Kyle couldn’t deliver the drugs, putting him in danger from drug bosses. He later mentioned that he might be safer in jail.

Despite this heartfelt remark, the crook quickly turned nasty and assaulted a police officer on guard. He then dashed for the pharmacy and nicked a load of prescription drugs, telling Charlie it was “life or death”.

Charlie, who’s been held captive a few times before, tried to step in and dropped the drugs when Kyle brandished a knife and shoved it into Charlie’s belly.

Realising he’d been knifed, he collapsed and passed out as Stevie and Faith hurried to help him after finding him bleeding heavily. Fans have since taken to social media, issuing a warning to those who may watch the drama with their families.

“Just want to say for anyone watching tonight’s episode to not let kids watch it it’s quite bad,” one fan warned. Another chimed in: “I agree. We’re watching it now. Horrendous! ” A third added: “Brilliant episode though but yes not for the children’s eye.”

However, some people believe it could be a learning experience for kids to see the stabbing scene. One person said: “It’s also good for kids to watch! Many kids don’t understand the danger/damage a knife can do! ” Actor Derek announced he was leaving the show in May last year, which left fans feeling sad.

“The time has come for me to hang up Charlie’s scrubs after the most wonderful 37 years,” he shared. Derek also said: “Charlie Fairhead was inspired by a real nurse Pete Salt.”

“Working with the writers and producers, I’ve tried to make Charlie as compassionate, kind, heroic and wise as Pete, who we all admire. I want to say thanks to Pete and everyone else over that time who has inspired me in bringing this character to life.”
