Renowned for its drama and iconic Duff Duffs, EastEnders is one of the most popular shows on British television.
However, despite its success, it’s certainly not short of an editing blunder or two. In its 39-year history, the London-based soap has delivered an array of incredible storylines, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.
From finding out who killed Lucy Beale to the great reveal that it was, in fact, Derek Branning, who was having an affair with Kat Slater, the writers have given the viewers more than their fair share of drama.
However, having been on air for almost four decades, there’s bound to have been the odd mistake thrown into the mix. So it comes as no surprise that the editors who’ve given the world so many epic moments, have also been responsible for a plethora of alarming hiccups.

Over the years, the show has suffered several errors, in which the programme has included additional dialogue that wasn’t initially captured on the day of recording. This usually occurs when producers in the editing room come to the conclusion that they require a few extra lines or something has gone wrong with the mics.
Utilising the magic of TV, editors use automated dialogue replacement, which often makes the mistakes disappear as if they never happened in the first place. However, this isn’t always the case, as can be seen in these ridiculous scenes below.
Roxy Mitchell talks at the speed of light
Roxy was always renowned for her fiery temper and witty sense of humour, but even she wasn’t capable of talking at such a speed. In an obscene audio mistake, editors attempted to add in an extra line of dialogue, only for their efforts to fall flat on their faces.
Rita Simmons, who played the iconic character, was chatting with Alfie Moon, played by Shane Ritchie, and asked: “So, how are you feeling about tomorrow? Are you nervous?”
However, with just one second to fit the line in, producers sped things up, resulting in Roxy’s mouth moving at a remarkable speed, which clearly wasn’t possible, leaving fans in hysterics. One amused viewer wrote: “I am OBSESSED with terrible ADR in #EastEnders.”
Elaine Peacock stuns with an explicit rant
While Elaine is certainly not one to mince her words, branding Karen Taylor ‘flith’ was pretty shocking even by her standards, especially when mixed in with a staggering editing issue.
While drinking in the Queen Vic, the locals were rendered furious upon discovering that it was Karen who was behind Albie’s kidnapping. Desperately upset with the revelation, they all took turns slamming the ex-cleaner.
And despite each actor producing a powerful delivery, Elaine stole the show, shouting: “Filth! That’s what you are! Filth,” in a manner that sounded far too clear and disjointed compared to her cast mates.
Unsurprisingly, viewers were quick to pick up on the bizarre moment, with several branding the mistake “iconic”.
Kathy Beale’s important breakfast
We all love a good English breakfast, full of sausage and black pudding, but Kathy appears to take her morning meal even more seriously than most.
At the height of the Covid pandemic, Brits were forced out of the office and sent to work at home, which is ultimately probably what resulted in this pretty hilarious error. With her son, Ben, having injured his head in a boat crash, the character’s mind was understandably on other things.
Yet, in a testament to keeping positive, she cooked up a lovely breakfast. But this wasn’t enough to deter Ian’s suspicions, as he questioned her on what was going on with the Mitchells, to which she replied: “I weren’t really there for the full Mitchell bulletin.”
Kathy then turned her back and spoke a ridiculous line that was clearly added in after filming. Talking through what sounded like a muffled microphone, she exclaimed: “Come on, this breakfast is important.”
This sent viewers into hysterics, with one posting on Twitter: “This is the worst but most hilarious.”
Honey Mitchell’s tooth disaster
While there are definitely some great options to choose from, for us, this is the most startling in the history of the show. Exhibiting his romantic heart, Billy Mitchell attempted to win back Honey with a home-cooked meal.
However, if his intentions were Romeo and Juliet, his delivery was Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.
Following a rocky patch, Billy was ready to present his love with a ring, when things suddenly went astray. Somehow, Honey choked on her own tooth.
Concerned for her well-being, the unsuspecting victim sprinted for the bathroom, as an extra line of dialogue was obviously added over the top. She screamed, “Billy, what have you done?” Honey, then released an amusing shriek that had clearly not been recorded at the time but ultimately made for a humorous error.
