Danniella Westbrook spends emotional first Mother’s Day with mum in 10 years

Danniella Westbook said she felt “grateful” as she revealed she’d spent her first Mother’s Day with her own mum in 10 years.

The former EastEnders actress – who has battled addiction in the past – posted a black and white snap of herself on Instagram as she called mum Susan “sensational” and shared how happy she was that she was sober and that they were sharing the special day.

“Mother’s Day spent with my mum first time in 10 years,” she told her fans. “What a lovely day all sat around the table for dinner, my brother, his lovely wife, my beautiful nephews.

“Really am so grateful to be present and sober and to be a mother and to have a sensational mother myself. Today has been a simple but special day. I wish you all a happy Mother’s Day,” added the 50-year-old.

Danniella, who first found fame as Albert Square’s Sam Mitchell, has been through some ups and downs in her life. The actress has suffered ill health and has been having to undergo facial reconstruction surgery after damage cause by osteoporosis.

And her past battle with substance abuse, which she has been candid about with fans, has been well-documented.

She has previously said that she has caused her mum “worry”, “embarrassment” and “heartache” over the years, but that her love has been “unconditional”.

Sharing a picture of her and Susan on Instagram in 2022, she wrote: “My Mother, my queen, my hero. Today to be able to spend quality time with you is something I treasure, for years I’ve caused you worry, embarrassment, heartache and given you false hope. All the things you worked so hard for me not to be.”

“Today one day at a time you can see hope and glimpses of your daughter coming back to life,” continued the star, who is a mum of two herself. “Thank you mum for all the unconditional love you show me even when I’ve been impossible to love. You are a women of strength, loyalty, love and a true treasure.”

“Love you the world always Danni xxx,” she ended the sweet message.
