BBC Breakfast viewers weren’t happy to hear about a new photo of Kate Middleton.
The Princess of Wales has become the subject of wild online rumours over the last few months following her abdominal surgery earlier this year. The royal’s last official public outing was in December, prompting many to raise questions about her health and whereabouts.
Kensington Palace released a new photo of Kate on Sunday (March 10) in celebration of Mother’s Day. The first official photo of the Princess since her surgery shows her posing with her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

But the picture, taken last week in Windsor by Prince William, has been pulled from circulation by four major picture agencies including The Associated Press (AP) Reuters, Getty Images and Agence France-Presse (AFP). It’s been claimed the snap has been manipulated.
Social media users have noted what they feel are inconsistencies within the photo that suggest it has been tampered with too much. One alleged issue is Princess Charlotte’s left-hand sleeve, which seems to disappear.
BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent discussed the photo drama in the studio on Monday (March 11) and interviewed royal photographer Ian Lloyd. However, many viewers couldn’t stomach the royal coverage and complained about it online during the programme.
Whilst many have been speculating about Kate’s condition in recent weeks, it appears many didn’t deem Kate’s photo newsworthy. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one wrote: “Couldn’t give a crap about a Royal photo #BBCBreakfast”.
“#BBCBreakfast – when considering the important stories in the world, the lead story is whether or not a royal picture has been doctored. Who cares?”.
Another commented: “#BBCBreakfast – when considering the important stories in the world, the lead story is whether or not a royal picture has been doctored. Who cares?”.
A third said: “UKs MSM, especially the BBC constant obsession with not knowing what’s going on in the Royal household continues….so angry I fell like going on #Newswatch….video call as well #bbcbreakfast”.
