After a very unlikely guest stole the show at this year’s Oscars, fans were in hysterics to find that same guest totally snubbing Matt Damon.
Fans who tuned in to catch the 96th Academy Awards overnight (March 11) saw an adorable pooch called Messi – who starred in Anatomy of a Fall – bizarrely ‘clapping’ in the audience as Robert Downey Jr. was awarded the Best Supporting Actor gong.
Messi even sported a smart black bow tie for the event – and camera angles finally revealed a pair of fake legs positioned in front of him to do the clapping for him.

In a sweet moment, the dog could be seen sitting upright in a chair with two black and white paws applauding on-screen. But after the ceremony, Messi let loose and things got… well, messy. The pup headed outside to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and lifted a leg over Matt Damon’s star.
But Messi was so well trained he didn’t appear to actually let loose a stream, instead glancing at someone off camera before trotting off. Host Jimmy Kimmel took to Instagram to share the cheeky video, captioning it: “Such a good boy.”
Damon and Kimmel have been engaged in a good-natured “feud” for two decades, and even headed out to a Red Sox game sporting matching ‘I’m with stupid’ shirts with arrows that pointed to each other. It all kicked off in 2005, when Jimmy ended a live episode of his talk show with the line: “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time.”
Matt wasn’t even scheduled as a guest on the episode – and the pair had never even met. Years later, it was time for Matt to open up about what happened, and he explained to SiriusXM’s Jess Cagle: “People started to call me and ask like, ‘Hey, what’s your connection to this guy?’ And I’d never met Jimmy.
“He literally pulled my name out of thin air one night.” Damon said Kimmel told him: “I had a ventriloquist and a guy in a gorilla suit as my guests”, so needed an A-list name as a “throw away” comment.

Matt joked: “He could’ve said, you know, George [Clooney] ― he could have said somebody else. But he just, for some reason, maybe I had a movie out that week or something, but he just said my name. And it changed the course of both of our lives. We’ve kept this feud going for, you know, it’s gotta be 15 years now. I’ve had a lot of fun doing it.”
Fans were loving the now viral moment, as one commented: “Hope this joke never ends.” Another echoed: “You were so good Jimmy! You should host every year.” And a third fan said: “Amazing show, I loved it.”
