BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent apologises as guest branded a ‘bore’ in huge mishap

BBC Breakfast issued an apology after one of its guests was labelled a “bore”.

Surfing-lover Peter Mallison was branded the “second largest bore in the world” due to an unfortunate graphic error. The awkward blunder was exposed during a segment on Tuesday’s episode (March 12), presented by Sally Nugent and Jon Kay.

The duo had been chatting to reporter Fiona Lamden, who was reporting live from Gloucester. A huge surfing event was about to take place there – a five-star seven-bore tidal wave.

As 65 year old surfer Peter began discussing the upcoming wave, a rather insulting title appeared on the screen. Viewers spotted the mistake immediately and rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to point it out.

One user said: “Harsh, I thought he was quite interesting #BBCBreakfast.” Another commented: “I thought that was a bit rude calling Peter the second largest bore in the world when I just looked up at the TV. #BBCBreakfast.”, reports the Express.

A third asked: “Graphics on #BBCBreakfast stitched this guy up. Wonder who the largest is? ” A fourth asked: “When you finally get on TV. Well done #BBCBreakfast @BBCOne #bbcone #bore.”

Host Sally noted the issue and apologised. She wrote on X: “I feel like we were a little harsh here this morning ⁦@BBCBreakfast.”

And the BBC Breakfast team issued a separate apology, writing: “Ooops… sorry Peter… we were talking about the Severn Bore on #BBCBreakfast ….”

Everyone was buzzing because it’s been five years since the Severn Bore wave event last took place.

The natural phenomenon also occurs in other places like the Amazon, China, and France too, but the River Severn is one of the top spots to see it.

Peter, who’s been surfing for a decade, shared: “I very quickly got addicted to it (surfing).” He loves it because: “It’s about engaging with the river and engaging with a wonderful group of people so it’s not just the surfing.”

Back in the studio, Jon Kay couldn’t hide his excitement as he mentioned wanting to grab his surfboard. Sally teased him saying: “And your coat and your hat and your gloves.”
