ITV bosses tried out a few different hosts to see who audiences preferred and who had the best TV chemistry. Ultimately it was decided that Cat and Ben would get the gig and they’ve officially stepped into the shows of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
But away from presenting, Cat has had her fair share of cheeky moments when the cameras were off…
Lesbian romance rumours
Last year, TV host Edith Bowman talked about a story that said she and Cat might have been more than friends. People chatted about it a lot back then, but Edith says they were just mates.
On Angela Scanlon’s Thanks a Million podcast, Edith talked about how they were once seen helping each other walk out of a cool bar because they had too much to drink. She explained: “Photographs of us kind of holding each other up, coming out of the Met bar or whatever was because we were p****d.”
“It wasn’t because we were like, licking each other’s faces off! We are in love, but as friends kind of thing, It’s so bizarre,” she shared.
Tied the knot after 9 months of dating
Cat and Patrick Kielty got hitched in 2012 after being in a relationship for nine months. The smitten pair said their vows at the beautiful St Isidore’s College in Rome.
But Cat revealed at the time that she wasn’t much into wedding planning, allowing Patrick to take over all the arrangements for their very “chilled-out ceremony”. Speaking to Closer, she quipped, “Patrick went and tried the food and did all that, I never even saw the place where I got married before I got married, that’s how uninvolved I was.”
However, the celebrity stated that she did aim to ensure her guests dressed up and enjoyed themselves. She expressed, “I get to dress up and have really special occasions all the time, so to me, that was the most exciting thing to happen.”
Embarrassing revelation about a chat line
Cat had a bit of an awkward moment when it emerged that her section on SMTV: Live was inspired by a naughty chat line. In 2020, ITV walked viewers down memory lane with The Story of SMTV Live.
The programme delved into the legendary kids’ show which propelled Cat and Geordie duo Ant and Dec to fame. But during the show, former Gogglebox personality Scarlett Moffat discussed the cheeky segment known as Cat Chat.
She said: “There was one bit where Cat used to do this thing…now I think it was a sex line…the Cat Chat. And I used to copy it and be like ‘helloooo’. And then now I look back and I’m like ‘oh that’s what it was! ‘”.
But after seeing an old clip of Cat Chat themselves, Ant, Dec and Cat look rather embarrassed. Ant then shouted: “It’s spoofing a sex chat line on Saturday mornings! “.
Cat replied: “Yeah…yeah,” to which Ant responded: “And you’re cool with that yeah? You’re cool with that? Let your kids watch that would you? Let your boys watch that now would you? “.
Robbie Williams ‘hook up’
Before she married Patrick in 2012, sources claim that singer Robbie Williams tried to set Cat up with his brother-in-law. Robbie who is married to actress Ayda Field was apparently worried about Cat and wanted to make sure she wasn’t lonely when she was working in America.
A source close to the singer told Daily Star: “Ayda’s brother Dylan Trussell is a good-looking fella and he’s always had a bit of a crush on Cat. Rob knows how harrowing the LA singles market is, so he invited her round for a double-date dinner.”
“It was an intimate meal for four at Rob’s mansion. No pressure was intended. It was just something to let Cat know she had friends and social options in LA.”
Nude health
Cat shared her secrets on staying fit after a tough battle with Covid-19. The telly star caught the virus in January 2021 and it left her feeling really poorly, almost like she had Multiple Sclerosis.
To get better, Lisa has been using infrared saunas and an oxygen chamber. Chatting to Women’s Health UK, she mentioned: “[I had] achy joints, no strength in my hands, and a weird thing that happened when I looked down – there’s a nerve at the back of your neck – and it almost felt fizzy, electric.”
When she talked about her time in the red light sauna and cryo-chamber, she said: “I have to read a magazine. So I’ve got my glasses on, at the same time I try and put my legs up the wall. Completely naked. I mean… thank God no one can see me,” she giggled.
