Greg Rutherford has said his fiancée got it wrong when she claimed he was “recovering well” after being rushed to hospital.
The 37-year-old was forced to pull out of the final of the ITV’s Dancing on Ice after suffering a nasty injury during the morning of rehearsals. The former Olympian needed stitches and has been left gutted at not being able to perform his bolero routine.
His fiancée Susie Verrill previously tried to reassure his fans, saying he was “doing a lot better and recovering well”. But Greg has now insisted this wasn’t true and that he was still “very sore” and “very tired”.

The sportsman shared her post suggesting he was improving and jokingly wrote on it: “No I’m not”. Susie, seeing the funny side of it, wrote: “Ok ignore, would like everyone to know he’s actually in a lot of pain [laughing emoji].”
Greg posted a clip from his bed while he recovers and explained he was going to have an early night after seeing a specialist on Monday (March 11). He told fans his situation was “grim”.
He said in the clip: “Seen a specialist today. I’ve got some scans tomorrow, and then I will know more about what’s going on, and what’s happening.
“I’m very sore and very tired so I’m going to get an early night tonight. But again I cannot believe the amount of lovely messages I’ve had so thanks very much. I’ll update everybody once I know what the next step is. This is grim.”
Greg also shared a video of himself and dance partner Vanessa James performing the bolero. The retired athlete admitted he was “heartbroken” that he and Vanessa couldn’t show off the routine in the final against Adele Roberts, Miles Nazaire and Ryan Thomas, the latter of whom was crowned champ.
“Something that I really wish I could have performed… #Bolero Im almost 36 hours since the injury and watching the videos of what could have been. It’s bloody hard to take at this point as I know we could have shown something exciting and new with our final performances.
“Of course the Bolero isn’t a given and I’ll post our showcase at some point too… I haven’t shown the end as I’m determined to actually perform it with Vanessa one day for everyone to see.
“I’m really proud of what we achieved on the show. This take was from Saturday morning and we were marking for the double twist… the full program was truly beautiful. I’m a bit heart broken at the moment”.
