Lily Allen has opened up about how being a mum to her two girls has “totally ruined” her pop music career.
The famous singer, known for her big tunes like Smile and The Fear, is a mum to Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, who she had with her ex-hubby Sam Cooper. Now, Lily has said that her daughters have made her give up the career she worked so hard for.
She chose her children over singing and is speaking out about the tough choice lots of mums face. Lily thinks women often have to pick between their job or their kids.

She spilled the beans: “My children ruined my career. I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop-stardom, they totally ruined it. I get really annoyed when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can’t.
“Some people choose their career over their children and that’s their prerogative, but my parents were quite absent when I was a kid,” Lily shared on the Radio Times Podcast. “I feel like it left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to repeat on mine,” reports the Mirror.
Lily’s dad, Keith Allen, who is 70, left her film producer mum Alison Owen, who is 63, when Lily was just four. Keith, who has starred in hit films, like Eddie The Eagle and The Others, went on to have other children.
The singer ended her relationship with builder and decorator husband Sam in 2015 and they divorced in 2018. She’s now happily married to Stranger Things star David Harbour.
They started dating in 2019, got hitched in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2020, and now live together in New York with Ethel and Marnie.
Last year, there were worries about their marriage when reports came out that Lily and David had “barely been together” for several months. Lily was super busy last summer starring in London’s West End production of The Pillowman, while David stayed at home in New York.
But David put an end to any rumours of trouble in their marriage, saying they were doing “so great”. Lily once shared on the Jonathan Ross show that she met David without even knowing he was a big-time actor on Netflix.
She said: “It was the first time I’d been on this dating app. I was scrolling through and landed on David’s profile and pressed accept. I didn’t know who he was. I thought he was just like a sexy policeman from a reality TV show because he was wearing a policeman’s uniform. It was a still from Stranger Things. I’d never seen Stranger Things.
“I don’t even know what I was looking for. It was just something to do on holiday, swiping, it’s a bit of fun. When I met him I didn’t think it was going to go anywhere. He was here filming Black Widow. He was only going to be here for a couple of months. And then it did [go somewhere].”
