‘Kate Middleton in danger of being exploited like Britney Spears’, says Katherine Ryan

Katherine Ryan hopes Kate Middleton isn’t getting “exploited” like Britney Spears did during the singer’s public meltdown in 2008.

The 40-year-old comedian has revealed her concerns for The Princess of Wales and says she hopes the royal has “good people” around her. The star of Netflix’s The Duchess says she wants to make sure Kate isn’t being “bullied” into sharing information that she doesn’t want to.

The Princess has been the centre of a media storm following her abdominal surgery at the start of the year. She has stepped back from public duties while she recovers from her operation and hasn’t made an official outing since December of last year.

Brits have been speculating about what’s happened to her and wild conspiracy theories have been swirling. Theories include her fighting secret health problems and her getting divorced from Prince William.

Katherine has compared Kate’s media storm to Britney’s public breakdown in 2008, which saw her followed by paparazzi everywhere she went. She spoke to Daily Star while plugging the launch of Gousto’s Bluey’s Family Dinner range.

Asked what she thought of the Kate drama, she told Daily Star: “I’m not in the camp of people who want to exploit a woman who has got a clear boundary against making a statement or appearing in public. I have no idea what’s going on with this woman, but I just hope that anyone who has been scrutinised or potentially exploited has good people around them.

“I was remembering the time with Britney Spears when it seemed like the paparazzi were very interested and publications articulated themselves in a different way back then and could say horrible things and jump to horrible conclusions. Now I think we’re a little bit more careful about the mental health of public figures.

“But I feel like I just wanted people to leave her alone and I thought if my friends and I can pull up in a car and we’d get Britney in and we’d make sure nobody is chasing her and exploiting her and that is my only hope for this situation now [with Kate]. I think even when someone is a public figure, whatever is going on with them, if they have indicated that they would like privacy, they should be granted that.”

Asked what she would say to the Princess, Katherine said: “I’ve always admired Kate Middleton. I don’t know if she would want to hear anything from me. I suppose as an outspoken comedian, feminist, with a podcast who sticks my nose in all the time, where it’s not invited… I think I would say that it’s important for every woman, every mother, every person, to have boundaries, to be authentic to themselves and not be bullied or pushed into making any statement that they’re not comfortable with.”

The mum-of-two added: “I always remind women that ‘no’ is a full sentence and that silence is a universal language.” Katherine is returning to stand-up with her upcoming UK and European tour – Battlexe – which kicks off in September and features dates at the London Palladium.

“I truly love Gousto. It’s delicious. I tell everyone who will listen about Gousto and how top quality, fresh and delicious it is. The Bluey-inspired Gousto range is great because it’s a variety of meals that my kids get excited to cook and eat, and they’re branching out. It’s also food that me and my daughter and my husband (Bobby Koostra) love so we’re trying to bring meal time in, cook dinner once, cook a family dinner together that everyone enjoys. This Bluey inspired range is perfect.”

Gousto ambassador, comedian and Bluey-superfan, Katherine Ryan, is celebrating the launch of Gousto’s Bluey’s Family Dinner range in partnership with BBC Studios.

With fewer families sitting around the table together, the range is designed to connect families at dinnertime with brand-new recipes such as Bluey’s favourite melty, tomatoey pizza girls margherita and Bingo and Bandit’s epic, aromatic king prawn curry. The new range is available to order nationwide from 19 March at gousto.co.uk for just £2.99 per portion.
