Jamie Dornan has revealed he once spat in a punter’s beer whilst working as a barman in a swanky pub in Knightsbridge, London.
The 41-year Hollywood actor, whose most prominent role saw him lead the cast of the 50 Shades of Grey franchise, worked opposite Harrod’s in the Tattersall Tavern before finding global fame. It was there in his twenties that he often found himself on the receiving end of abuse from the boozer’s regular clientele.
One incident saw the star respond in a rather unorthodox manner – behind the customer’s back. “There was a guy who used to come in,” Jamie ranted, recalling the man had “horrible, floppy, blonde curtains”.

He continued in a guest appearance on Sean Evans’ Hot Ones YouTube series: “Honestly, I can close my eyes now and I can picture this p***k’s face. He used to come in and click his fingers at me.”
The dad-of-three added: “Listen, I’m about to admit something I’m ashamed of, but a couple times, I spat in his drink. He always orders a gin and tonic, so you could sort of mix your spit in quite easily.
“I mean, that’s what you get if you click your fingers at another human being. Sorry, I don’t care. I just sat in glee while I watched him drink my saliva.”
Despite having two Golden Globe nominations to his name, Jamie credits his spitting as his “proudest moment”. He went on to add that back home in County Down one of his roles has earned him a free pint every time he returns to a pub in his native Holywood.
“I did a film for Netflix called The Siege of Jadotville, which is a true story about an Irish Army in The Congo in 1961,” Jamie said, adding that some Irish people are “happy” that he shared the story. “I’m pretty certain that someone’s bought me a pint for bringing that story to light.”
Earlier this year, meanwhile, pal and BBC Radio 5 Live host Gordon Smart revealed how Jamie was almost “killed” by poisonous toxic caterpillars on a lads trip – finding himself rushed to hospital after a disastrous golfing weekend in Portugal. He said: “We were having a great time, first day loads of golf, went out, loads of wine was drunk then we got onto espresso martinis. Then I started to feel tingling in my left hand, and then tingling in my left arm, which is a sign of a heart attack.
Medics sent him to hospital and whilst there he saw Dornan being raced into the Emergency Room. Gordon added: “As I was laying there Jamie went passed me on a hospital bed with doctors shouting the same questions to him, and I thought that’s not a good sign if he’s in the same state as me. It was a pretty scary time to be honest.’’
Gordon explained the scare could have been caused by brushing up against hairy caterpillars on the golf course. He said Portuguese medics later contacted them to say dangerous processionary caterpillars had been suspected of killing people’s dogs in the area, and that men in their forties had nearly died after having heart attacks playing golf nearby.
