Loose Women star has ‘no plans whatsoever’ to return after quitting ITV show

Jane McDonald has “no plans whatsoever” to return to Loose Women for its 25th anniversary after quitting as a panellist.

The cruise ship star left ITV ’s Loose Women behind back in 2014, but recently she’s been topping lists of potential returnees as the show celebrates turning a quarter of a century old. One source told Bella magazine: “In September, Loose Women will celebrate 25 years on air, a feat nobody, especially the critics, thought they could achieve.

“But they have proved everybody wrong and bosses want to go all-out with the celebrations, including bringing back some Loose Women legends. And top of the list is Jane McDonald.”

The insider said ITV bosses will reportedly “do anything to make sure she’s involved”, hailing Jane as “the ultimate Loose Woman”. Now, though, those plans might have been scuppered, as Jane apparently has no plans to come back.

Her spokesperson told Entertainment Daily: “There are no discussions taking place with regards to Jane returning to Loose Women whatsoever. She always thoroughly enjoys going back as a guest and catching up with the ladies but there’s no plans to go back as a panellist.”

When she originally stepped down in 2014, Jane said: “It’s easy to keep doing something safe, but I’m a singer. It’s been an incredible ten years and I’ve loved every minute of it.” Jane starred on the show for 10 years before she made the decision to move on with her music career.

She added at the time: “I’ve got a busy and exciting year coming up with a new album and national concert tour. So the time is right for me to step aside from Loose Women and concentrate on new opportunities. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again on tour and I thank you all for your continued support, loyalty and best wishes.”

Earlier this year, Jane had some huge career news to share as she confirmed a break from her Channel 5 travel shows. She’s instead taking on a major UK tour – as she still wants fans to get “excited” for her globe-trotting series.

She told OK! Magazine: “I’ll be busy travelling on the tour bus and I’m just going to be in the United Kingdom. I’m going to have a break from the travel shows. I like people to get excited when it comes on. I think, ‘Right, let’s rest it for a bit now’.”

Jane continued with her work with a smile on her face despite the huge loss she suffered in 2021, when her fiancé Eddie died from lung cancer. Jane previously lost her mum, who she shared a close bond with, in 2018.

Jane said: “I do shed the occasional tear and especially at new year. That’s when it hits me. If the two of them are looking down on me, I honestly think they wouldn’t want me to be lost in sadness wondering what to do with the rest of my life.”
